Yeah. Games get an advantage from being linear. Better set pieces, better graphics and you can keep a better focus on story. A game should not be penalised for being linear.

When i read that, i think gamers forgot how were games before, we loved that kind of games, now everyone is bored so easily, sad.
If the game want to be linear, is that a bad think if the game is good ?
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m
To me the article is just a clickbait opinion piece exagerated.

Surely cant be more linear than the walking dead.... which btw is a great game, so even if it is, I dont see how its a bad thing.
Why everything has to be 'open world'? I am sick of this. Our childhood was awesome because of those 'linear' games. People still enjoy this type of game today (Mario, Uncharted, Last of us, Gears of War etc etc).

It just looks extremly scripted and the gameplay looks boring imo.
Being too scripted is what I'm worried about. Linear is a design choice, neither good or bad.
It looks like a terrible game to me. I mean I love me some Quantic Dream type games that are linear and have nothing but quicktime events really for gameplay because they just have cool stories and try to engage you in different ways than other games.
But The Order just looks pretentious to me. It's a movie impersonating a mediocre third person shooter. Walk a few meters, cutscene, take a few shots, cutscene, small quicktime event, cutscene, take another couple shots, cutscene. That was the E3 presentation in a nutshell. It was cringeworthy to be quite honest.
And what is your point. Linearity is not a bad thing especially for a story based game. Like most shooters and action games (with some exceptions) they will be heavily linear. That's the way I like just like a books and movies. Tell the story with a clear ending. As long as there is some freedom to explore, I'll be very happy. This game is not supposed to be like GTA. Isn't that clear by now? There is no problem here except with your premise that all good games need to stay away from a straight forward approach. I'm just calling you on your topic which is flawed.
