It's Chris Rock, and I doubt there is a script anywhere.

you know? what i find really stupid is people who get offended by the word negro (it means black in english) when they come to Mexico for vacations or to study abroad, I dont go calling people that when i go to the US, they shouldnt get offended when they hear the word in a society that is not racist towards black people, specially if the intended use of the word is not pejorative, you have to be sensitive of cultural differences....

OOO my GOD guys it is a trap, it is not about the N word it is about WHITE teacher

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

oh, and i have a question, do black people get offended if a latino tells them that word? or just white poeple? because, you know in the US they were never in opression by brown skin people like me... specially if used in a non offensive context...

First I decided that I wouldn't touch this thread with a ten foot pole.

I still feel that way.

I wouldn't use that word if I was him. Black people, though, have to decide if it's offensive or not. It can't be non offensive when a black sais it and offensive when a white sais it. It makes no sence and I think it is unfair how black people use it against others to call them racists when they use the word themselves.

It is stuff like that that seperates the human race insteed of uniting it.

OK, and you fail at life... big time! And what's worse is that you're not the only one in this thread.

I'm sure you don't understand what context is then, which is serious mental deficiency, I think mostly Asperger people lack this common sense, but you're no asperger.

One exact same word can have different meaning based on the context, be it voice tone, who says it, to whom it's said, voice loudness, ...

That's why a voiced over drama can become a comedy, that's even why humorists can exist. Only racist or stupid people could say sth as stupid as "Black people, though, have to decide if it's offensive or not. It can't be non offensive when a black sais it and offensive when a white sais it".

Moron!

And even making the supposition that the guy and his friends call each other "niggers", I doubt the teacher is one of his friend, and I also doubt the guy called his teacher "nigger". And unless the teacher calls his family members "nigger", or all his students like that, explain to me exactly how come he used the word in this instance.

The same racist or stupid moniker can be applied to people that say "it's only words". Well right, people can be banned on this very forum and lots of others everywhere, for using "only words". Some people die for "only words".

When I hear such stupidity, I wonder if some people learned anything in school. Seriously!

So imagine you call me a word and I tell you I'm deeply offended by the word and that it cuts me to the bone.  Later on you see my friends call me that word.  You see me laughing my ass off at comedians using the word.  You see me buying cds and supporting musicians using the word in their songs.  Wouldn't you then question just how sincere I was about finding the word offensive?

I think if a word is truly offensive to someone it's offensive regardless of who says it.  You don't see other cultures doing what I mentioned with words that they find offensive and I don't think anyone should expect to have a double standard when it comes to using any particular word and not have it questioned.  You can hide behind the word "context" all you want but to me it's just an excuse that holds no weight.

thats just sad if i was that person i would smack her!!!

cebrian,

If the photo on ur post is you, then, considering ur face shape, ur hair and the clothes u are wearing I would avoid calling a black man "negro".

(I think)

I would add there are plenty of black that dont like to be called "negro" whatever the guy that said it is black/yellow/white/brown ...

Ok then, we're going to have to agree to disagree. You can go on living life assuming no one in hte world takes racial slurs offensively, while I'll remain believing some do and some don't.

You are 'telling' people why they are offending by the slur, that's what I find ignorant. And in your last post you're saying that everyone targeted by it is socially unacceptable? I'm actually struggling to see where you are getting all this from.

I mean seriously, is this word so important to your everyday life Grey? Is the fact that it offends people seriously limiting your vocabulary?

I don't really care myself, but I don't want to have to have an ever growing list of words that I can't use for completely nonsensical and hypocritical reasons. I don't assume no one takes offense at the word nigger, but that they have no PERSONAL reason to do so. My points supporting this were all listed out in my first post. The reason for NOT saying it (being offended) is undermined by the fact that black people can say it, but not white people, which is of itself a racist viewpoint, even though saying the word is what is supposed to be racist.

No word should be made not allowed because some group has chosen to become offended by it. Simply put, there are two acceptable responses to any word: The word does not apply to you, thus you may dismiss it and not be offended by the word, or the word DOES apply to you, in which case it's the truth so shut the fuck up whether it offends you or not and if you don't like it, make the changes to YOURSELF so that word no longer applies.

Think about the few people that still do use the term nigger to be an insult. Why does that still continue? Because black people are still "offended" by it, and often react in ways that reinforce teh stereotype suggested by "nigger"

How long would that word continue to be used as an insult if every single black person believed and informed others that "nigger" was actually an ancient african term referring to royalty, and thanked the person for the complement? "thank you, I can only hope to one day reach the respect and prosperity of the royal niggers of my homeland"

You will NEVER stop the usage of a term that offends someone. You can only work to make it not offensive and ignore the offensive use of it completely until no one can remember that it ever had that meaning.
