Making cartoon games hasnt been a problem for nintendo, they look pretty good at times.

Not a sword that's part of all that gear the horse is carrying As you see the's no sword, I still think it's Link though and don't think it's a female character either seeing how anime art directions go. He may get a sword later on.

I definitely see a scabbard in that last gif, you can see the tip of it behind that funky arrow head after Link takes off her cloak, as she's raising her bow.

This the protagonist of the game, his name is Link, Link is Link and Link is a guy. Until someone explicitly states otherwise.

While you CAN argue that it isn't a sword, one thing that is undeniably in the video is that there is indeed a shield.  I don't know if you CAN use a shield with a bow and arrow that clearly requires both hands to use.

That is true having a shield with out a melee weapon makes little sense.

My only doubt is in the handedness of Link. Link has always been lefty except in the Wii games because they thought it'd be too confusing for right handed people. Now, if this is Link and they are pushing motion controls again, I want them to give people a left handed option, not everyone here is right handed :P

It is a sword. The gif you showed is the horse's left side. The sword is on the horse's right side. The image he showed isn't a good example because it only shows the handle, but in the video you can very clearly see the sheath half a second after this. It's brown with a lighter pattern on it matching the one on his shirt and was right under where the special arrow was. It ran parallel to it so it was blocked off, but it was very clearly there.

EDIT: Actually, you can even see the sheath in the gif. Look at the moment when he pulls out the two bomb arrows. Right before the pouch on the horse's right thigh rises, you can see it right above it behind the special arrow.
