A couple with what you said....

The Wii stopped shipiments in Japan. Its still selling in NA and Europe.

Also you realize that for the PS3 to last 3-4 years that would give it a longer life then the PS2? That's really not going to happen. The sales dropped off massively since the PS4 launched its only doing 40k a week now and this time last year it was probably 150k a week even in May.

Also its not winning if you need 6 extra years just to match or just barly beat the Wii. The generation is already over anyway.

Last generation is still going. The boundaries between each generation is fuzzy, as proven by the PS2. I'm not saying PS3 is pulling off a PS2, but point being, both this and last generation are going at the same time. The 7th generation of consoles will end when the PS3 dies.

First. Wii ALMOST stopped shipments, it barely sells since 2014 started.

Second. If PS3 lasts 3-4 more years until 2017-2018 that would be 11-12 years since 2006, the same as PS2 (2000-2012).

Third. I never said this will mean "PS3 won the generation", just the fact that it will overtake Wii. PS2 sold around 50m after PS3 launched. PS3 doesn't need to sell at the same rate to reach 100-105 million.

But if you want to know my opinion....If console A still sells after console B disappeared, it's a problem for console B. If console A ends selling more, that's a fact. You can consider whatever you want then. To me, the one who sold most lifetime, wins the "sales war" argument. To me, PS3 won the "games war" argument anyway years ago.....

I agree with the bolded especially in context of this (http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2011/04/the_console_war_erupts_analyst_says_playstation_3_has_surpassed_xbox_360_in_active_install_base ), which is further reinforced by this ( http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/it-news-digest/verdict-all-116-million-units-of-xbox-360-faulty/ ). Sales and shipment numbers mean nothing if a large number of consoles break after their warranties expired and if the userbase is significantly lower than the sales numbers. Flame shield activate!

so ps3 is #2. good to know.

its a dead heat.

and statistically, will remain so.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ps3+overtakes+360

So even though this was announced a year ago and PS3 has been outselling 360 every single month they are now somehow equal?

Very fishy.

"and statistically, will remain so."

This statement carries no meaning.

september = every single month?

The point is that term generation is a time period when those are the current consoles which companies are offering to the consumer. The 7th generation ended for all intents and purposes when the PS4 and Xbox One. The PS2 won its generation because it sold the most in the time period between 2000- 2006. Just like the Wii did from 2006 to 2013. Anything that happens after is besides the point.

And the sony guys on here thought that the PS3 would overtake the Wii. Funny that those proclamations are not made anymore. :)

Some people still believe it will...

Well, I was one of them and I still thinking the same. PS3 shipments will finish FY2014 (March 2015) around 90m. Why PS3 can't sell 10-15 more in 3-4 more years???

Wii stopped shipments, so if Sony decide some time in the near future to sell PS3 under 200 $/€ i'm confident PS3 can sell 3-4 mill per year on average until 2018, surpassing the Wii.

If I don't talk more about this, is because right now, there aren't any reasons to bring back the subject again. We just need patience.

The "games war" is a matter of opinion as depending on who you ask the answer will differ between the three consoles. For me isn't so clear, however my PS3 library is the biggest out of my consoles with the Wii being a close second. PS3 may eventually pass the Wii if certain things happen, however I tend to agree with SethNintendo in thinking that the PS3 will have one or two more holidays and be gone probably being discontuined in 2016 sometime.

Oh just noticed that MS announced 84m shipped lol
http://www.vgchartz.com/article/251642/xbox-360-shipments-reach-84-million-399-xbox-one-hits-store-shelves/

So yeah ~1.7m on shelves.

They send them directly to the secret Virtual Boy landfill (*) they bought from Ninty! That landfill should be accounted for as an additional region in chartz, it would be bigger than UK!

(*) where gnomes, dwarves and alien slaves refurbish them to sell them as missile guidance systems to rogue states, declaring them as toys and allowing the US to circumvent the weapon embargo they themselves required for those countries.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. A huge bulk of PS2 sales came after the 360 released. Some of its biggest games came out after last gen started such as Final Fantasy XII, Persona 4, and Kingdom Hearts 2. That's why the PS2 eclipsed 150 million sales and is treated the legend like it is today. It won, in my eyes, because of its longevity.
