I thought Smash 64 on the Wii was part of a past Club Nintendo promotion;  but if not, does it require the Classic Controller?  Because I don't have that.

Well, you can play Smash 64 with the Classic Controller or the GC controller, so you are out of luck if you don't have one of them!

Yes, and there's been a change from when I did a similar poll shortly after the SSB Direct. At time of linking, it stood at 3DS - 23, Wii U - 94, Both - 141. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=181502.

Mario Kart 8's rocky online makes me worry for SSB4, so I'm gonna wait a bit and see how it plays out before getting either version.

It's a hard prediction, it all depends. Brawl sold 12 million, but do people honestly think that the fanbase grew in size from 7 million in Melee to 12 in Brawl? I'm pretty sure the majority of the sales came from non-real fans, so I think we need to consider first the biggest fans and how big the real fanbase is. I'd say that the Wii U game will get 5.5 million (I think a good majority of those people will be the "big" fans, let's say about 4 million are the biggest fans.). If there are that many "real" fans (I'm guessing, but am likely too high), then you can definitely expect the 3DS version to sell at least the amount of "real" fans. Plus, consider how many "non-real" fans will buy the 3DS version. The install base will probably be around 46 million give or take when Smash 3DS launches, so the chances the "non-real" fans will end up buying this for friends, family or for themselves is much higher than the Wii U game. So, I'd expect higher sales for 3DS, 7.5 million, simply because the install base will be way bigger. Of course, it's also possible that not that many "non-real" fans will end up buying the game, but I think due to the larger pool of "non-real" fans, the 3DS game has a better chance of selling more. Japan is pretty interesting, because I think in the latest Famitsu's "most wanted" list, the 3DS version is ranked higher than the Wii U version. Would this be the same for the rest of the world? I dont know, but trends are fun to follow. :D

Here's the thing. NO self-respecting Smash fan is anticipating the 3DS version over the Wii U one. The only people who are planning to get the 3DS version but NOT the Wii U version, are people who are too cheap/broke to buy a Wii U for the real version of the game. Because make no mistake about it, the Wii U version is the real version. It's a nice little "hey let's make some more money" idea by Nintendo to have a 3DS version, but I still feel, and will continue to maintain, that it was an absolute waste of time and resources on their part.

For one thing, most people who want the 3DS version, also want the Wii U version, and the only reason they want the 3DS version at all, is because they like the idea of "Smash on the go". Which is fine and dandy. But let's face facts. The 3DS version, despite jargon and rhetoric, is going to have less content, the controls are not going to be as good, the game won't PLAY as good with that control option and the tiny screen, and let's face it, the graphics are terrible. Yes, I said that. They literally look worse than Brawl's graphics (which still look fine), in fact they are more on par with Melee's graphics.

For another thing, while I don't think that the 3DS version will have TOO drastic an impact on the Wii U version's sales, the fact of the matter is, you have to be outright ignorant not to realize that it is still going to undermine/sabotage the Wii U version at least to some degree. Which is why I think having the 3DS version at all was a stupid move on Nintendo's part. The game being Wii U exclusive (and having an actual title, not just the generic "for Wii U"), would have given the game a fully realized hype machine. People would have absolutely HAD to buy a Wii U if they wanted a new Smash Bros. game. Now, this situation only allows for the lazy and cheap among us to just buy a cheaper 3DS, or get the 3DS game if they already had the system.

Like I said though, NO self-respecting Smash fan DOESN'T want the Wii U version, for a plethora of reasons: graphics, content, control options, undoubtedly better gameplay, cooler stages, playing the game on a BIG screen TV as it's supposed to be, etc. etc. etc.

So no. I think that while Nintendo was foolish for even bothering to NOT make it a Wii U only game, I still think there is strong reason to believe the Wii U version should sell just fine.

im not cheap or broke and im not getting the Wii U version. Becasue its dumb(imho) to pay 300+ for a system just to play one game. NOw later down the line if the WIi U ends up getting 3 or more games i really want to play then ill get it, but it wont be this year. Ill stick to my non "real" version thank you. Fighting games on portables work as Darkstalkers, Street Fighter, Tekken, hell all of them have proven. We'll be fine. Not to mention I dont have to wait till winter to play it.

All in all i just want  decent Smash to play and lets be real. Brawl wasnt even that good to being with so its not like im expecting much even from the Wii U version. Its not that i dont want it, i dont need it. ANd try not to speak for everyone mmmkay?

3ds version for me because that is the system i have. Will get the WIi U version whenever i pick up the system. Which wont be anytime soon.

3ds version has months lead over WIi U and a much bigger install base. Anyone who thinks WIi U version will kill it is insane. Hell i havent even seen Wii U version on the preorder charts. Maybe it will out leg it.

4M for 3DS
6M for WiiU

Is 8 really that rocky? Cause that was and still is my biggest gripe with Brawl. If the new one isnt a 100% improvement ill pass.

ill say 8mil for Wii U
8.5-9mil for 3ds
