Forums - General - What is your stance on piracy?

I think it's okay to pirate if you can't afford to buy it :)

Think China :)

my stance on old content that is no longer attainable such as really old games etc is pro.

my stance in all other circumstances is negative.

I support the right to move and mold your purchased content (ex: backups, iso's etc)

I'm pretty lax on piracy and have I admit pirated things in the past and probably will again. However I do still buy by far the majority of my games and music (I dont really watch that many movies) and always will, real things feel like they actually mean something whereas pirated things always seem worthless =\

If it's old abandonware stuff, I don't really mind if people download it, and if its impossible to obtain without spending tons of money like a discontinued ps1 game. I personally don't download new games, but I have no  problems with those that do.

I buy $1 pirated dvds of latest films when on holiday in bali or thailand. I never buy music cd's I download all songs and music from the net off shareware to my pc.
But I actually buy genuine console games but wait for them to be on special or buy secondhand.

My question is how do you pirate PS3 or XBox 360 games? Is it simply rip the disc to computer save file and then burn it a new DVD?

Oh god... i am guilty for playing burned PS2 games, and Movies... lock me up.

Lol

Piracy would stop if companies were not so damn greedy and overcharged consumers for games. $60 US and more for a game thats really steep. New games should cost no more than $30 US upon release.

Well making a back up copy to a game is not a crime. It only takes one scratch and the disc does not work anymore and yeah disks break easily.

As far as I'm concerned, pirating is inevitable - It always has and always will be around to some extent. With advances in mass market technology over recent decades, pirating has certainly become more prevalent. Personally, I avoid it with respect to gaming - I only buy the most important games anyway, otherwise a rental or two would usually suffice. Furthermore, you can sell them secondhand and I rather like having the physical copies. Similarly, I prefer to purchase my movies and DVD's for the same reasons. Pirated music on the other hand, is so mainstream it is almost pointless to avoid.

Well, I feel bad for the company cause it's an illegally distributed copy. Something that is genuine is a win for me.
