Forums - Nintendo - So, Mario Kart 8 moved consoles despite Wii U design

What game should be next

Zelda HD 327 55.90%

Banjo Threeie 40 6.84%

Retro new action adventure IP 57 9.74%

Metroid Prime 4 103 17.61%

Others 56 9.57%

Total:583

My estimate of hardware Wii U with new games:

Bayonetta 2: 120,000.
X: 100,000.
The new Zelda: 170,000.
Super Smash Bros: 500,000 if coming on Chrismas, if coming on normal week, 140,000.

I can't wait to see how much Smash Bros. boost sales!

But you must be on drugs, you're positive about Nintendo!

Smash Bros 4 won't boost sales because the game is also on the 3DS!!!1

Im kinda sueprised actualy, I never doubted Mario for a second but Super Mario 3D World didnt have as much impact as MK8, kinda wierd that ppl decided to get theyre WiiUs now instead of when 3D World came out (I got mine when 3D World came out hehe).

I'm not surprised at all. 3D World wasn't the game most non-Wii U owners were looking for. The wanted the successor to true "open world" 3D Mario games like Galaxy, Sunshine, and 64. 3D World is, quite frankly, a 3D NSMB.

They didn't get what they wanted, so they didn't buy the console. I'm surprised anyone genuinely thought that SM3DW would move signifigant consoles to be honest.

I might be speaking for myself here cause Ive never been a Big Mario Kart fan but it never struck me as a game ppl would buy a console for, its good fun but you play it awhile tham its starts to get repetitive and if youre not with friends fun factor drops a lot. But I guess Im wrong and ppl do buy consoles for Mario Kart.

Lol, Mario Kart as a franchise is huge. It's Nintendo's biggest core franchise, dwarfed only by Pokemon in system selling power.

I know its a hughe franchise its just that I dont realy picture anyone going "Yay Mario Kart Im gona go and buy a WiiU for it" probably because I dont like the games that much, I understand how it adds a lot to a console line up I just dont get why ppl go bananas to buy systems for Mario Kart and it always surprises me when they do but I supose I should stop getting surprised by it.

I don't get that though. Like I'm not big into GTA, but I'm not blind to the sales, and have never been surprised when console sales skyrocket at it's release. This is like if GTA where exclusive. Mario Kart is that big. Mario Kart is the only reason a lot of people even buy Nintendo consoles.

people here forget that Smash will be on 3DS first. Unless a bundle like MK8 happen, Smash will do nothing for Wii U

No tbone. I love Smash and I will buy, but I'm realistic. Smash is on 3DS, first. Simple

The GameCube had large hardware/software spikes too, there was a period where it actually outsold the PS2, but all that still only got it 22 million in LTD sales.

The audience of people willing to buy a console without big third party support will always be small unless you have some kind of controller/novelty miracle that captures everyone's imagination to drive sales.

Once the Mario Kart bump passes, Nintendo really doesn't have a lot of big cards left to play. Smash is on the 3DS too.

Zelda U will move even more units, as would a Metroid Prime 4. Zelda U is confirmed, Medtroid Prime 4 isn't. C'mon Nintendo, get to it!
