Forums - Gaming - Why didn't you buy a Gamecube for $199, $149, $99?

I didnt buy one because it appealed to a much younger audience. (My younger sister bought one though)

Real men use guns, girls use GCs, right?

Has there ever been any doubt that Nintendo generally appeals to a younger demographic? Just go look at the games listed that are upcoming for the Wii and those that are upcoming for the PS3/360 at IGN and any doubts you have about that will be laid to rest.

Its not necessarily a bad thing, just something you have to consider when purchasing a console. The distribution of Mature games is much higher on the other two than on the GC or the Wii.

You mean, real men like porno and violence?

Mature doesn't mean Mature, it means pubertal

I bought a refurbished one from Zellers for 129.99$ when Metroid Prime came out. The GC was still around 200$ here so I got a steal of a deal. It came with a memory card and sunshine. I wouldn't have gotten my little blue box of love if it wasn't an impulse buy like it was. I'd become a sony supporter during the N64/PS1 days and grabbed a PS2 within the first year of release. I hardly played the PS2 at all though (had a bunch of games) it just didn't feel like anything new, just more of the same with better graphics. The Cube... damn what an awesome system.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Umm...

My cousin had one and he wasn't really enjoying it, I was having a great time with my PS2. Whenever I went to my cousins we would play it together and it wasn't really that fun and the controllers were crap, in my opinion. Also, everytime I would go to a store there would be like 3 shelves of PS2 games, 1 for Gamecube, and the Gamecube was dirt cheap, it just always seemed like it was waiting for its death.

 Quoted for great truth.

I've had to deal with that stupid state of mind since the N64 days. Stupid teenagers and preteens saying "Banjo kazooie? F--- (teenagers also think swearing is cool) THAT, I'm gonna go play some resident evil"

I love the resident evil series, but saying something is "immature" because it lacks guns, swords, blood, boobs, and profanity is just dumbass. Boom blocks looks like a fun innovative, creative puzzler with a ton of potential with it's ability to create levels and physics based puzzles and trade them online. But who cares? You don't get to shoot or stab anything. It's a game for kids. the "hardcore" are about as far from hardcore as you can get with their parochial views of what is a good game, or a game worth playing.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

yeah nongamers (the type that only get sports games and violent shooters and action games) always think that nintendo is somehow uncool and kiddie with no good games. seems like there are tons of these people too as they pretty much make up the "hardcore" audience of the 360. i guess these are the people that sony expanded the market to with gta and sports games on the ps1 and ps2 and then might have also got an xbox for halo and madden.

i had a friend in college who worked at kbtoys and he said they always told customers not to get the gamecube, he hardly ever plays games and is the type of gamer described above. even today with the wii being ultra popular those type of people still think its uncool.

i think thats the main reason why more people didn't buy gamecube. a lot of the true gamers who had been gaming for years got it cuz it had a great lineup of games. also from a couple of the posts above some people for some strange reason think that the only games worth playing on nintendo systems are mario, zelda, and metroid and if you don't like those then there is nothing to play. which is the strangest and most uninformed thought ever. such as what the poster "coolestguyever" said. he didn't get a gamecube just for mario, zelda, and whatever else... unfortunately apparently people like him don't realize that "whatever else" encompasses a very good library of many different types of games. thats like saying you wouldn't buy a console just for halo, madden, and whatever else or just for final fantasy, metal gear solid, and whatever else.

these nongamers have it in their head that nintendo is not cool for some reason and so think it only has the nintendo games everyone knows about like mario and zelda, and they ignore the existence of all the other great games. there's no way a gamer who plays more than just one or two genres and so aren't really true gamers can say he doesn't like a system because of the types of games it has cuz every mainstream system ever has had good games spread across pretty much all genres.

Would you clarify what genre actual gamers play?

I almost bought one when I saw RE4, but then learned that it was coming to the PS2, so I held off. Also, I don't have much time to dedicate to playing games, and there were more than enough games in the queue to be played for the PS2.

From what I've read and seen, the GameCube version was vastly superior to the PS2 version.

1/ no interest in Ninty games (Mario ...)
2/ interested in PSX games (MGS)
3/ PS2 was the winner, so I bought the winner with mores games and my preferred games

This gen :

1/ still not interested in Ninty games (Wiifit LOL)
2/ still interested in PSX/Xbox360 games
3/ PS3/Xbox360 are still getting games even being outcompeted by the Wii

Conclusion :

This gen is not last gen but I will buy my PS console
Or an Xbox360 is the PS3 doesn't convince me.
I doubt I will take a Wii that , except being cheap, has no interest for me ...

Time to Work !

Got ne , when it was 199$ ... just that the gaming library wasnt as varied as the PS2s . Quickly sold mine ...
