I watched a complete playthrough of the game (which is why I only spoke of the story and not the gameplay which seems to have its own set of flaws)...I believe that is enough to inform myself of the flaws with the story.

I bet the history must really suck for you to keep watching it for 6h in a masochist way.

I did the same as him and arrived at the same conclusion.

Watched it with my roommate and we kinda made fun of it though, so that helped.

you guys have more stomach than me. If I'm watching a movie for 15-30 min and don't like I just turn it off, no need to torture myself just to say I watched something. So the history (even if bad for you) must have been interesting enough to keep you hooked.

You're forgetting that Ryse is a 6 hour static story, while Heavy Rain was a 10 hour dynamic story that for which the player's choices and actions had actual meaning to the lives of the characters and story as a whole. That was one of the major criticism against Two Souls, it lacked that feeling of control that made Heavy Rain feel so immersive.

Beyond 2 souls was longer than Heavy rain, the decisions that matter are spread out more, yet there are more of them than in Heavy rain. I didn't feel that it lacked control, the pacing could have been tightened up though. And jumping back and forward through the timeline makes it a very confusing first playthrough, which makes it seem that your actions hardly have any consequences. I started appreciating the control you have over the story while going back to chapters to unlock the extras. You can kill or save most of the main characters, including yourself, what more control do you want.

Beyond 2 souls is a mixed bag.
The condensor, The mission, Hunted, Broken, Dragon's hideout were all great chapters.
The party, the dinner, groan worthy.
Homeless, Navajo, too slow.
The rest was just average.

It was Super Best Friends Play so it was pretty hilarious to watch them making jokes and talking about game design. If it was simply a commentary-less playthrough I probably wouldn't have gotten through 15minutes...

Kinda, I did want to know how it ends and if the game would have game changing decisions in it, like HR did, so I watched till the end, but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't leave very disappointed after I was done watching.

I didn't stop watching after 15-30 minutes because I remembered HR and how embarassingly bad that started (JAAAAASON), that game actually turned out pretty interesting, not the same for Beyond imo.

I did it without commentary, can't stand let's plays with commentary.

Ryse would be praised if it was exclusive to X1.

Oh wait...

Beyond is an amazing game, most gamers agree. And you cant. ealy compare a game that was developed for the story first and foremost, use high caliber actors for mocap and tells a realy deep and involved story with Ryzes superficial story.

Ryze is beautfull but that was not what made Heavy Rain and Beyond great games, its because they cna actualy tell the story right.

Errr...the story of Beyond was pretty darn terrible. It was all over the place, horribly paced, inconsistent and often badly written. The non-linear approach was done just about as badly as I have ever seen and only served to destroy any sense of tension or mystery throughout the story. The story was so bad that someone went through the entire game talking about what was wrong with every single scene (http://daemonpro.tumblr.com/post/72185078716/what-if-beyond-two-souls-was-good-part-1)...The "high caliber actors for mocap" were the only thing good about the game, however even good actors can't make a terrible story good.

And I bet you played the whole game to make your conclusion, didn't just looked for bad reviews  To inform yourself of what to complain, right?

Dont bother with him DonFerrari, complex storys get labeled as bad by lots of ppl in a hearthbeat cause theyre not easy to grasp and most gamers/movie are just too lazy to put some effort into understanding the story. And watching a playtrough of someone bashing the story as your first exposure to said story realy helps you buil;ding your own opinion right ? I imagine how it wouldve turn out if you had watched a video of someone praising the story non stop instead.

Creating a thread complaining about praise in a ps game and lack of in a microsoft game then bringing the most praised ps exclusive to complain more ...

yea , this seems like a Mr pug thread .

krenik comment nailed it.

Hey, I was someone that also crapped on Ryse. Yet I happily stepped into Heavy Rain knowing its basically what I disliked about Ryse. Hence, I came into Ryse wanting a good hack n' slash, but I should have went into with the same expectations of a QD game.

I'm not complaining about Last of Us, gameplay just wasn't its strongest feature. You ignore I praise it for great story and visuals though.

Ofcourse this is a Pug thread, it has created great discussion. You love my threads and I appreciate the support.

How's the air up on that high horse?

Ryse is a piss poor attempt at being a god of war game, set in Rome.

God of War games had QTEs, cinematic like experiences, amazing set pieces, great voice overs, all things they share with Ryse, however the combat in God of War is deep and the enemies are varied in the strategy they force you to use, each encouter feels unique! (I talk about the mainline titles here, 1, 2 and 3...) also the god of war games are much longer than the 4 - 5 hours campaign in Ryse.

Also, God of War has real difficulty, even if you are very good at QTEs you cannot win these games!.. most of them are just present for bonus (health or XP) and they're not on EVERY encounter.

The only reason Ryse for any attention is because it's a graphicsl showpiece for a new console, having "a story" is not like having a "great story".
