Don't let Nottingham Forest fans here you say that. Brian Clough fans would have words with you.
Hmm, pie.

Took Forest from 2nd Division to Champions League Winners... twice. And no, I'm not (southampton fan), but being surrounded by them though makes me notice things. The statue in the town centre as well might show how highly Nottingham in general hold him.
Hmm, pie.

That is going to change. You'll see. City will do more for English players than the FA themselves have done in years. |
They won't at all, as all they want to do is win, and their first xi will always be stocked with 18/19/20 players. There's a reason ourselves (United), Madid, Ac Milan, Juventus etc. Haven't produced any top top class players, and that's because winning becomes too important, and the youth talent have to be outstanding to break into the first team/the team has to be doing poorly/the club has to be broke. Take us for example, in the mid 90's we had no money to spend on players (most of the money was going into the stadium at that time), so what did Fergie have to do when the squad came up short in players? suppliment from the youth team, and that's how Becks/Scholes/Neville x 2/ Butt all got their chance, otherwise I doubt, other than Gary and Scholes, any of them would have got a break into the team as the other 3 all got to where they were because of hard work ethics and great coaching. Hell even Barcelona who are supposedly godly at bringing players through, haven't had a player break into their first team from their academy since Messi/Pedro/Busquets, which was 7/8/9 years ago now, and before that it was 14/15 years ago with Xavi/Iniesta/Puyol/Valdes.
Let's just put it this way, come start of the season what is Pellegrini gonna do if he has 50 mill to spend (all city get now due to FFP) and he feels the team is weak in defence, go buy one of the best defenders in the world, or trust a kid who may or may not make it at the club, which hurts the team performance, the board deam the performance unsatisfactory, state that he had 50 million to spend to plug the hole in the team and sack him. He's going to spend the money, which means the kid doesn't get to break into the team, so he spends a couple of seasons in the reserves/championship on loan he doesn't develop as much, he ends up a mid-table premier league player, doesn't help anybody.
The only way a kid breaks into a top team is if he's a genuine superkid, and there's only ever maybe 10-15 of those spread throughout the world at any one time, and more than likely half won't make it due to injuries or poor work ethic. Hell we currently only have 3 in the premier league as it is (Januzaj, Barkley and Sterling), there isn't really anybody in Italy setting the world alight (El Shaarawy, but he's now 22 has 3 season of football, and spent most of last year injured [had opps on his foot but at least one failed to fix the problem], and obviously Pogba, but we developed him Fergie just fucked up) Germany have a fair few young tallents but they're all getting to be 22/23 now and nobody else has really come through, Spain don't really, and France haven't produced anybody top top class through their teams in years.
| kowenicki said: Celtic... ha ha haaaa. Brilliant. On Fergsuon He knew how to win the league, not in small part due to teams thinking they were beat before they even stepped on the field. But in Europe he massively underperformed imo. 2 wins in 20 years when you are dominant in England is poor. Paisley won it 3 times in 5 years with Liverpool, and that is when you HAD to be champions. |
Real Madrid spent 32 years not winning it, depsite winning their league 16 times in that period, with 14 of those league titles being in 4/5 year runs on the trot. Just because you are dominant in one of the top leagues doesn't mean you're guarenteed sucess in Europe, as often league winners are the team with a good xi but phenominal depth, or by far the best Manager. Look at 08-09 season in England. Liverpool that year had a better first 11 than us (IMO, their midfield shat on ours that year, though we had better defence, though marginal, and Ronaldo) that year, yet fell short.

Aw.. thats f up.. last time it happend, it was between two no name teams (Debrecen vs Litex Lovech) and one had to pay a fine... (also a few minutes of an ineligible player, they didn't register him) Celtic is probably a more bankable name and this sh*t happens....
