When your stadium isn't big enough for the World Cup you're about to host

Being afraid of heights myself that looks pretty scary.

Why can't the World Cup just be held in England, Germany and the USA everytime? It seems like those are the only countries that don't have to suffer big losses to host a World Cup.

Because holding it in the same 3 countries over and over again would be inanely boring? Besides, I've no doubt at the very least France could also hold it without losses. Probably Italy too. Given their current investment it's surely only a matter of time before China joins that list as well.

I think something tat would help other countries host the World Cup is reducing the capacity requirements. That was one of the main issues in Brazil, just like in Qatar and Russia.
I'm actually shocked that China has never even bid to host the World Cup. I think China as hosts would have made perfect sense for 2022.

I'm not really afraid of height, but that crap looks unsafe to no ends. Wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Hmm, pie.

Well with China they probably want to wait until they think they actually have a chance. It's not exactly good seeing the hosts humiliated at their own tournament and I'm sure China wouldn't want that. It's going to happen to Qatar... but eh, nobody really likes them at the moment anyway

I don't really have an issue with the capacity requirements. Reduce them and less people can go, that means less money obviously, but more importantly for those of us that don't benefit financially from it... less fans get to enjoy being at the world cup which would totally suck! There's plenty of countries that don't really mind spending money to upgrade and expand their stadiums though, and ideally they should continue to be used for the club game after. Those bigger/better stadiums and hopefully a greater interest in football from the population should help their league be more profitable in the long term too. So making money from the world cup isn't entirely reflected in just how much they earn during the cup itself.

I don't think the performance of China should have been that big of an issue. Japan never qualified for a World Cup before when they won the right to host. China's national team is also improving and is better than Qatar's right now.

Japan had won an Asian Cup though, and won another just before the tournament. It's not really an issue, I mean South Africa didn't do too great, and Qatar will no doubt get battered. But it's still worth mentioning when China have publicly stated they want to be one of the best teams in the world by 2050. So if they host a World Cup before then and get humiliated... it isn't going to look good. Makes sense that they'd want to develop their team some more so even in the likely event that they don't do great, they still won't be too bad.

The USA were in an even worse position than China are now when they hosted. Many players didn't even belong to a club (they were considered US national team players full time!) and there was no professional league. But I can understand why China would have more pressure because they are spending millions for the development of football and the fans would not want to see them thumped at home. I do expect China to host a World Cup in the future.

So WTF happened at Bayern? Apparently they're asking Heynckes to come out of retirement for them. Asking a retired manager to come back just screams of desperation to me. Sounds like they really screwed up by firing Ancelotti if they never even had a proper plan for what to do afterwards...

Or the fact they think he could do a better job than Ancelotti. Fair enough if they want him gone but no one is available that could come in a do a better job until next summer.

This is one of the worst and most negative England performances I've ever seen.

Everyone will be hoping to avoid England in the draw.

I can't wait for us to lose to Belarus on Saturday lmaoooo

But seriously, our only hope at getting 2nd is Luxembourg being able to do what they already did against France. Just park the bus and keep a clean sheet.
