Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The overlooked POSITIVES of Digital Foundry's MK8 piece

Shouldn't click on an analysis article if you can't take nitpicking. That's what an analysis is.

But I thought DF was the source of all evil and negativity... Oh well, better luck next time.

The writer of the article also goes on to say on neogaf, it's impressive for a wiiu game.

This is why cherry-picking negative quotes to fill an agenda is dishonest and lame. It was silly the way people were attacking Digital Foundry when they had more good to say than bad.

That's what happens when you cut out a small part of an article and create a new topic around it while completely ignoring the rest of what was said. Context is lost and readers will be made to believe that that small part sums up the entire article. It's also worth mentioning that about 99% of forum-goers are of the belief that thread-creators are saints unable of spinning, taking things out of context or downright lying, and therefore checking the source(s) is considered a complete waste of effort.

Which is not a good thing.  Disclaimers like "For Wii U" or  "Compared to prior Mario Karts" don't sound good.

Do you like this?

"Tracks are alive and bursting with colour and animation backed by an overhauled lighting solution and a smattering of excellent texture-work." - For a Wii U game.

"Thankfully, the lacklustre image quality does little to spoil an otherwise magnificent visual package." - For a Wii U game.

"This is all enhanced by a convincing combination of real-time and pre-baked shadows that even take occluded edges into account. Complimenting this is a vast array of dynamic light sources, such as headlights, item boxes, and special effects, made possible by what we suspect is a shift to a deferred rendering solution. Even in four-player split-screen we see dynamic lighting play a large role in defining the visual design while simultaneously highlighting detail in the texture work. It's really quite a treat for the eyes." - For a Wii U game.

"The world is further enhanced by the same atmospheric glow we loved in Super Mario 3D World, lending an almost hyper-realistic look to the surroundings alongside smaller details including a more robust particle system and plenty of decal textures. You'll notice plumes of smoke encircling the tyres as you jam on the accelerator, dust and debris kicking up when you drive through dirt, and rising bubbles when submerged in water. Skid-marks and other decals also help give persistence to each lap around the track." - For a Wii U game.

"Mario Kart 8 is a beautiful game with just a few small flaws that blemish an otherwise faultless presentation." - For a Wii U game.

I don't have a problem with what they said, more that it was the way that they said it. They made it sound a lot worse than it is. The vast majority of people won't notice the 'problem' and it's hardly a major stutter switching from 59fps to 60fps and back again.

Mario kart 8 is impressive for wiiu hardware' which only has 176 gflops. So nintendo is really doing amazing Job with such weak hardware.

I don't think the writer was trying to make a disclaimer, at least in the analysis, I mean compared to everything else on the Wii U the game looks rather impressive. But DF's article was rather fair, MK8 isn't knocking down any walls and it has some issues that probably shouldn't have been there but overall it's still a pretty game.
