Forums - Gaming - Have you ever been nostalgia-blind for a game?

You own a game that you have nostalgic feelings for, however looking back at said game one day you realize the game wasn't as good as you originally thought..

So, have you ever played a game you loved but replaying it now, it just doesn't live up to how you rememebered it?

I dont have any specific examples but I know I had a lot of N64 games that I loved and thought were amazing, nowadays however I realized a lot of these games weren't actually all that good XD

Somes up my answer =P

Going back and playing a few of them now is really dissapointing. Well at least there are still a lot of great games, mainly the Nintendo and Rare ones but a few others too.

Resident Evil 4 is that game.

First thing that comes to mind would be the Sonic Advanced series for Game Boy Advance. I had fond memories of playing through the series many times back in the day, but now I can't even finish a world without losing interest.

I'm trying to think of more games, but most of the time they actually do live up to my memories of them.

I guess the Sonic adventure series but not many people think it sucks so no.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

A lot of stuff from the 5-6th gen. Most of the games I enjoyed back then have aged terribly. I mean some of the game mechanics back then. Yeesh.

Resident Evil 1-3 comes to mind, those games had horrible controls. One of the many reasons why I won't go back to them.

Games were great for their time but going back and playing them, things really have improved since then. Pretty much any game from the PS2 era (they didn't figure out what to do with the right stick until then) and earlier almost all suffer from this. Even my beloved Wave Race and Star Fox 64 just don't get the blood pumping like they used to. Chrono Trigger was easily one of my favorite games of all time but when I got it for DS, I never finished it. I'm about 75% done but I just wasn't able to wrap it up.

Sonic Adventure I guess? Yeah, Sonic Adventure :(

THIS!  I know a lot of people hate on new versions of Tomb Raider and Resident Evil but they seem to forget that those games were getting bashed for being stale back when they were in their third entries!  I LOVED RE 1, 2, Zero and Remake when they first released.  I HATED RE3, Code Veronica, and Zero (Yes, I loved and hated it) when they were released.  They needed a change.  If people got what they wanted, those franchises would be dead.

Pretty much. For long running franchises, game mechanics need to evolve in order stay fresh and keep games from getting stale.

Looking back though, I'm glad I was a part of those gens.. particularly the 5th gen, when 3D was in its infancy. Those FMV's!
