You might be willing to write it off, but I'm an optimist. Considering the way this gen's started I'd say you were counting Chicken's before they hatched.

Considering the way this gen's started in Japan, the chickens have already hatched, and subsequently died.

Yah, but PS3s have sold what ~10mil life time in Japan? Why would Japanese developers be so quick to give up on the PS4? If Sega is smart they would use the media attention of the P5 on PS3 to capitalize on a PS4 and Vita port as well, considering either versions would be harder to advertise standalone.

Because the PS4 won't well 10m lifetime in japan. The Vita actually might. And Japan vastly prefers handhelds. Why would they just ignore the Sony one that's actually selling marginally okay over there and instead support the console nobody there prefers that's literally about to sell less than the Wii U week to week.

I would bet money that a Vita version of P5 would sell better on the Vita than on the PS3 in Japan.

I wonder why they can't port it to the 3DS. That would sell better than any of them.

Because Persona sells just as much in the west as it does in Japan, at least according to this site, and in the west the PS4 is vastly more popular than the PS Vita.

Also your whole dooming of the PS4 in Japan is still hilariously premature, it'll probably not sell as much as the PS3 but it will still sell more than enough for a game like Persona to do its average ~300k in Japan, most Japanese third parties only need that much to comfortably break even, so you can be pretty sure that they'll develop for the PS4, Sony always manages to get the third parties on board.

The Vita was in a similar situation the PS4 is in, it just didn't have many games that appeal to the japanese audience at the beginning of its life, and just like the PS4 the Vita also had very slow sales at that time. But as soon as the third parties games started coming (which according to your logic shouldn't have happened from the beginning, after all the 3DS was crushing the Vita), sales started getting better and the exact same thing is going to happen with the PS4 in 2015-2016.

The Vita wasn't a home console. Wishful thinking.

With that logic, no developer should've ever supported the ps3 and Vita. Both were "dead" for awhile after they launched.

The smart thing to do would be to put in on PS4, but I doubt they'll do it.

This isn't a question of should they, it's will they. And who's supporting the Vita again?

Atlus, Xseed, SCEE, SCEJ, Arc system Works, Bamco?

I think A Vita port sometime in the future is a given, but a PS4 port might come first. The Reason is that Atlus/Sega will want to increase sales potential by getting fans to "double dip". Basically all the original fans re-bought Persona 3 almost 3 times, They got P4 fans to buy the game twice almost unanimously. They will release P5 on PS3 as Planned, then a PS4 release the following year with a Vita Golden like Port there after. Vita version feels assured but the PS4 port might not be necessary once PS4 can play PS3 games with PSNow.
