Forums - Nintendo - A sequel to Majora's Mask... On the 3DS?

I dunno, A Link Between Worlds has had somewhat disappointing sales for the 3DS.

If they're going to make a game like this, I think they'd be better off doing it for the Wii U. The 3DS can get a port of Majora's Mask and do well enough with that.

I think Nintendo just needs to accept the truth here ... the game community wants a big, epic Zelda on a console with more realistic style graphics. I think Nintendo should just oblige the fan base that, they have enough IP that are kid-centric/kid-friendly anyway.

I'd like to see the end of the story of the Hero of Time but I'd prefer it on Wii U.

Are you kidding? ALBW has sold 2 million physical copies in 6 months. That's half of that the original Wind Waker sold. In. Six. Months. It's two times what WWHD has done. In. Six. Months. If there's a third HoT game, it'll be on the 3DS. Because that's where all the assets, the engine, and the installed base for the first two HoT3D games will be by then.

There are just as many fans who don't want a lame realistic Zelda as those who do. Thankfully, Aonuma has already stated numerous times that the Wii U Zelda game won't be realistic.

I would like it on the wiiU instead... I know not everyone likes/has a wiiU but I would rather have dem visuals like WWHD at min rather than OoT3d... Yea yea, graphics aren't everything but I would still like it on the wiiU none the less! Cause everytime someone mentions Majora's mask on 3ds/wiiU, I keep on thinking about that fake trailer that just made me Jizz my pants! Sure, it probably won't look like that but one can always hope right?

I was going to reply to your post in disagreement, but that trailer changed my mind. One day I will play a version of Majora's Mask that looks like that or better... one day. :)

It's a decent idea, and I too would like a third Hero of Time game. A hero of such legend deserves a third game doesn't he? ALttP Link also had three (or four, if you'd count the Oracles separately) adventures!

I do want to tame the expectations of MM3D a bit though. That game is in no way guaranteed. All they did was say they were thinking about it in various ways. I do agree there's a good possibility of it happening in 3DS's twilight years. I'm also sure that if it happens, it'll be on 3DS. No way it would come to WiiU.

I do rather have that 3rd HoT game on WiiU, because it would be way grander, but you make a good point about consistency and the game fitting in with the other two so they'd later could be ported as a set to a home console.

Also, A Link Between Worlds sold 2.51m as of April according to Nintendo (they have WWHD at 1.22m). A lot more than we have here on VGC, it will reach 4m some day I think. Which would be fine.

If they do make it for the 3DS I hope they don't use the same engine as they had for OoT3D. OoT3D was a nice enhanced port, but it really didn't push the 3DS to its limits nor did it take advantage of what the 3DS has to offer. The 3DS seems comparable, more or less, to the Gamecube/Wii in terms of hardware (in some ways better, in others worse) so  we should see games that take advantage of this hardware. I'd like TP level graphics, since TP looks quite nice when one plays  on a smaller screen or at a higher resolution (through Dolphin), because there are no longer jaggies and on a smaller screen the blurry textures are less noticeable. MM with TP graphics would be quite nice, in my opinion.

I think new mainline Zelda games on handheld are always going to be top down like ALBW, whereas the full 3D camera control Zeldas will be on home consoles, so if there's a MM sequel, the Wii U is where it'll be!

I serously doubt that Nintendo will make OoT3D and MM3D for the 3DS, and then completely ignore those assets and that engine and spend extra time and money making the 3rd installment on the Wii U when it would make more financial and convenient sence to make it on the 3DS. If it's made, it'll probably be for the 3DS first. It won't be conpletely new. It would be more like ALBW, but even easier since all the assets and the engine are already there.

And that's why I think there wont be a MM sequel to begin with!

Thing is, part of the reason I want it to be on the 3DS is because of the hardware limitations of the 3DS. It would keep it feeling like a smaller N64 style game, which I think is important for the Hero of Time. It should feel like it could have been made on the N64.

I really want it to be made on a home console, but what you said there made a little bit of sense... They could make it on Wii U too, but then it wouldn't feel like a modern home console Zelda either.

Yep.

I would love to see a sequel as I think that world has plenty more to explore. I hope that it would be truly 3-d though in terms of perspective. I always feel that if its 3-d it should be 3-d, if it is 2-d it should be 2-d.
