Forums - Gaming - Crytek: 8GB RAM Can Be Easily Filled Up, Will Surely Be Limiting Factor on PS4/Xbox One

Sorry to burst your bubble but Crysis 1 is on PS3 and 360 as well

Using the Cryengine 3, and pretty noticeably paired down (powers combined and things of that nature).  Crysis 1, as it was originally, is not on the PS3/360.  Small point, sure, but the original engine was much more demanding.

But the game could be done for console, once they had an engine that was optomized for consoles.

I do find it weird how they like to bad mouthed consoles every so often, even tho they clearly depend on them for revenue and even do exclusive games for platform holders, It's just embarrasing at this point.

I have a good PC and a PS4. Consoles lack power. I wish they dont. But I used to play Quake 3 Arena in year 1999 at 768p with Nvidia TNT2 graphic card. The Geforce 1 was very expensive for me.... 15 years later I run battlefield 4 at 900p on PS4. Same for Watch DogsNot a great increase in resolution. Im kind of dissapointed. If this is a trully next gen time i expect new consoles at least at 1080p when High end PCs are reaching 2160p.

I think Crytek made Cryengine 2 because Crysis 1 was not able to run on consoles with all the volumetric clouds and 4 time the poligon count of other games. Crysis 2 was linear with small maps and lauched with DX9. So they made it for Consoles after they couldnt sell well Crysis 1 for PC.

So its right. Crysis 1 cant be handle by 7 gen consoles as it was on PC.

Its also true that Crysis 2 was able to run on consoles, it was made for them and it was the worst game of all.

Cryengine 3 was made thinking on PC and consoles. PC people were very dissapointed with Crysis 2. It became like a COD Game. So, they push the limits of consoles with Crysis 3. Also true.

They say that Consoles cant compete with PC. Its obvious that a 500 Watt Radeon that costs 1500 USS will be far faster than several PS4 together. The PS4 dont even reach 200W with all its hardware. its 11,0 Teraflops against 1,84. No contest. Right again.

But they have to sell Rise, So they say they are happy with XBONE. Thats the only lie they told.

Now they say that console memory will not be enough. There is never enough memory period.

When they built a game on an engine that was tailored to the consoles, yes.  However, Cevat Yerli also said that bells and whistles that PC's could do, were intentionally excluded from Cryengine 3, because the consoles couldn't handle them.  The statement that the original Crysis, on the original engine, could not be done on console, is absolutely true.

And you're right, it's very weird how they bash consoles, especially after they lost any and all credibility with the PC crowd.

And I created this long ago.

Good lord, that was funny. I believe Crytek achieved a technical marvel with Crysis 1. When doing Crysis 2, thet couldn't top it. They turned it in a corridor shooter trying to get a simpler game that could destroy the first one. Even on Crysis 3, they never did it. They improved the graphics, but they never did something so superior as C1 was at the time.

I'm pretty sure most maxed out PC games don't consume anywhere near the same amount of RAM that is available to the PS4 / Xbox One.

Crytek needs to go into animation instead of games.

Crytek's bullshit as always!

They love make crappy games with beautifull graphics but unoptimized code.

Remember graphics are 60% of the game!

Everybody and everything is bullshit with you.

Bullshit! :P

Read well, I wrote as it was on PC. Crysis 1 on PS3 and 360 sucks, Textures were horrible. Crysis on PC also had DX10 very high quality graphics. I took five years to run that setting well.

When you check how much memory a game uses in windows it doesn't include the video ram, and probably also not the disk cache that windows is using to help your game run smoothly. My laptop has 3.1GB in use while just browsing vgchartz.

Disk cache? PS#Bone have disk cache in addition to 8GB as well, if you really think it's productive to go there.
Memory usage of a web browser on top of general purpose operating system is nearly irrelevant to console gaming.
OK maybe not to unoptimized Crytek games.

I hope this gen will bring more variety to the worlds, procedural generation for geometry, trees, clouds etc. You need a lot of memory for that.

Seems to me like procedural generation would reduce memory usage, one texture/geometry can be transformed into 1000.
PS4's 10x GPGPU advantage may be as much about decoupling from memory bandwidth needs as augmenting the CPU.
Obviously that doesn't really apply when discussing the XBone.
