Nintendo of America just removed the regular 3DS from the main page of its official website, leaving only the 3DS XL and the 2DS.

Interestingly enough, the smaller 3DS is still listed on the “What is Nintendo 3DS?” section and on the European and Japanese websites.

This move could mean several things, but the possible options are that the company is either preparing for a redesign (maybe a “lite” version akin to what was done with the original DS) or to phase out the non-XL version entirely. It could also simply mean that Nintendo is shifting the marketing focus away from the older model.

We reached out to Nintendo for a comment, and we’ll keep you updated if we receive any relevant information.

Huh, good find. Could be something to see at E3...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I don't think it's anything special, I'm pretty sure they might just be shifting towards XL/2DS now. I really don't expect a Lite version to come out at this time. (Actually, I kinda consider the 2DS the Lite version of the 3DS)

Yeah, but E3 is more than 3 weeks away. Would they make such a big change public before a perfect event like E3?

4DS confirmed?

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. its normal in eu.

but if they do a 3DSi then..........#ragequit.

3DS Lite is coming. They need something with a price point in between the 2DS and the XL.

The original 3DS design isn't all that great, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're bringing in a new model.

People thought Microsoft would save the Kinectless Xbox One bundle for E3 but they revealed that pre-E3 as well.

3DS lite with improved battery life would be nice. New chassis should look like the 3DS XL (instead of the DS-design), only smaller.
