See the Xperia Play. It could do PSP games and Android games, plus it had physical controls. Sony's new handheld being a hybrid that can do exclusive new games along with older Vita/PSP games, not to mention the huge library of Android games (most of which suck, but there are a few good ones here and there) is certainly possible.

Except Sony never did release PSP games on the thing, nor did they update the PSX library.  As much as I love my Xperia Play, it's a dead end.  Sony needs to find a way to make a "great" controller add=on that doesn't make any Xperia line phone ginormous.

I'll give you that, they ported a few games as a graphics demo but that was it really. Hopefully they'll get it right this time around.

I don't know how representative this is, but I live in Argentina, and I download most of the games. Most latin americans who own a 3DS lie and register as canadians or americans in order to use the e shop. It is much cheaper that way. I also have Mega Man II, Wario Land II, Link's Awakening, Castlevania and the Sonic and Kid Icarus 3D Classics.

If you consider that the 3DS is selling much less, but Animal Crossing 3DS sold better than the DS one, Pokemon will probably sell better than the DS one, at least better than black white, Mario 3D Land will outsell the Mario 64 DS remake, the Fire Emblem is the best selling fire emblem ever, it seems to me like the attach rate, at least for Nintendo games, should be much better than the DS one. The issue is there is very little third party support + shovelware, most of them moved to cell phone games. 3DS is not getting Mega Man games and Castlevanias like the DS and 3DS. I would love a new Civilization revolution for 3DS.

Your seemingly "positive" write-up ended on some very sour notes. DLC? Mario Kart 7+? Like Capcom?

What's happening? That certainly won't expand the market.

I was mostly spewing ideas. And I feel that DLC is a viable path provided you use Capcom as a guide of what NOT to do.

Hell, if Nintendo's recent DLC offerings are anything to go by, they already know how to do it properly. Mario Golf, for example, offered $15 of DLC, but this DLC basically added 50% more content to the asking price of $30.

If the Mario Kart team spent the next few months making another two cups for Mario Kart 7, added four more characters, and offered the new content either as $10 of DLC or as part of a new $35/$40 retail product, I'd hardly be upset.

This won't expand the market, but done wisely, it won't lead to a contraction either.

Mario Golf is also looking to be the worst selling entry in the series yet.

Now, you can blame that on what you will, but this was also the first Mario Golf to offer DLC. More importantly, it was the first Nintendo game that had any first day DLC. Maybe people don't like it?

Why are people still buying Mario Kart DS? No dlc?
