Their "generosity" comes in the form of doing what Sony does. Its called competition. They are pleasing the consumer by acting like Sony. Its not generosity, it's called damage control in the form of:

-Taking off app blocks from Xbox Live = Following Sony and Nintendo

-DRM Drop= Following Sony

-Games for Gold= Following Sony

-Deals for Gold= Following Sony

-Dropping Kinect= Following Sonys price point after lying about the Kinect being an essential part of the Xbox that cannot be disconnected and then later saying its not but they will never stop selling Kinect with the Xbox. I called their bluff long ago and I was right.

Xbox gamers can hate Sony all they want, but in the end should thank their existence for succeeding where Microsoft would've made a lot of consumers very unhappy. Trust me, I am a lot happier with my Xbox One today because of it. I was about to boycott buying one...but thanks to my cousin he sent me one and I accepted happily.

Thank goodness for the head of Microsoft Games Division as well. That guy listens.

I am aware of them responding to competition. Doesn't change how my subscription more then pays for itself now.

Its like having a Playstation without having  Playstation. ;)

No. Actually it wasnt. Microsoft has never been generous.

Actually "Deals for Gold" has been a thing for years before PS+, where buying stuff online was at a great discount if you were a gold member.

 Responding to competition or not, they are now. Free games is generous. This isn't about who is more generous: Sony or MS. Just let it go.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Turn 10 has been pretty generous with their Forza Rewards program especially for Forza 5. I'm currently top tier and get 1,5 million in credits at the start of each month.

Not completly sure about that one but over the past year there where better deals on digital content on the 360.  Even if you didn't have gold especially during the holidays (countdown to the new year).

I thought this was going to be about generosity in gaming, people that help out complete strangers get a difficult achievement, or give them valuable items in MMO's or Souls games without expecting anything in return.

All your examples are not that kind of generosity. Damage control, matching the competition, while expecting you to stay with them and keep renewing your account. I don't call it generosity when my cable company adds a new channel, upgrades and old one to HD, or adds more programs for 'free' in the on demand library.

So you mean to tell me Deals for gold has existed since before 2010? I had the Xbox 360 before 2010 and it never had those benefits. Every deal with gold benefit is a response to PSN Plus discounts.
