Actually "Deals for Gold" has been a thing for years before PS+, where buying stuff online was at a great discount if you were a gold member.

 Responding to competition or not, they are now. Free games is generous. This isn't about who is more generous: Sony or MS. Just let it go.

All your examples are not that kind of generosity. Damage control, matching the competition, while expecting you to stay with them and keep renewing your account. I don't call it generosity when my cable company adds a new channel, upgrades and old one to HD, or adds more programs for 'free' in the on demand library.


Well I have been generous in a game before I gifted a Bugatti Veyron to a random person since he asked for it nicely in Forza Horizon and its the 12th most expensive car in the game.

I believe Deals for Gold came after  the reception to Sony's response to Valves Steam sales. I remember Microsoft did it after Sony and everyone on the site was like "Finally! Microsoft did it too!". That wasnt very long ago either.

I'm pretty sure they had occasional extra discounts on games for gold members before 2010.  Now discounts on games are much more frequent both for gold and non gold members.  It seems that there are some deals on games and other stuff on the 360 on a semi weekly basis.

Oh...I just read up. Deals with  gold is the new initiative with stronger sales to combat PSN+ discounts. It was renamed from the "Deal of the Week" which has existed since 2009. Things are about to get interesting now because those old deals were a joke. Thanks to Valve, Sony started doing discounts and thanks to Sony, Microsoft followed suit. Competition is a hell of a thing and the deals are great all around now.

There have been a lot of good deals on the 360 over the past year.  Only wish that the DLC for Forza 4 would be on sale once in a while or the second DLC for Alan Wake.

There have been a lot of good deals on the 360 over the past year.  Only wish that the DLC for Forza 4 would be on sale once in a while or the second DLC for Alan Wake.

Yeah, those deals were the ones I spoke of in reponse to sonys response to Valve. Those from both companies were fairly recent. Sony will have their seasonal flash sale after Valve  soon and Microsoft will do it as well. 

How much is the DLC for Alan Wake on the 360? I got the whole Alan Wake bundle for 7 bucks last year.I have it on my PC so it got it during a Steam sale for a pittance.

Dont confuse stuff like

damage control because credit card info might be comprimised and passwords were stolen with here free games becaue why not?

Or stuff like here EA bundle lets hope people will now use Origin (so they dont wish origin fucks up and vanishes) with being generous. (thats also why BF1942 and some older games and Sims addons are free)

Generous is stuff like random companies giving millions to the Fukushima victims without making it public.
