Tough... I always liked the epic inspirational scenes with everyone encouraging you etc on Zemus/Zeromus with the theme music in the background.

Would really have to review them all.

For me, the KH Sephiroth fight. My jaw dropped the second I saw him drop down and I went into full panic mode.

Also, The emerald machine or whatever it is called in FFVII. It scared the fuck out of me since I have a fear of deep sea monsters/creatures.

Lastly, the dinosaur in the first desert area of FFXII. It was ridiculous to see that thing walking around when I was level 1 or 2 after fighting off rats.

You are not alone. Fighting the Judges are some of my fondest moments in FFXII. FFXII has a special place in my heart mostly due to these guys and the battle system.

I personally think FFXII has the most productive battle system in the series. The Gambit System is tightly constructed, that other games still can't copy them right. I can't help but see Dragon Age's system as a poor man's version of Gambits. They worked so well. And XII is still the only FF where I found every spell useful throughout the game. I almost never use spells like Reflect, Protect, and Shell in most FF games, but in FFXII they are essential to survival in some areas. And many debuff abilities like immobilize are crucial. I found the battles so much fun. And god knows some of those Elite Hunts are out of this world hard, with lifebar for DAYS!

While FFXII has one of my favorite battle systems from the series, I disagree with the bolded part. In fact, that's a inherent flaw in the whole series: if it's not for healing, attacking or protecting, then the spell is useless. Debuffs sound amazing on paper but, whoops - most bosses are immune to them. Or just so resistant, it's not even worth it. And bosses are the fights where you'd expect you'd use those spells... an annoying trope really.

And that's something I love about FFXIII. In that one, every single spell is useful. Just take a quick look at Libra to see if you can debuff your enemy, and you're all set. Oh, but the Judges are awesome fights indeed.

Wow, Ultima Weapon is pretty good too. It's the first time the game plays Battle to the Death, so it surprised me. The Warring Triad fights are also pretty fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of FFVIII's Bahamut fight though - if you lose, you have to go through that annoying room again and fight those annoying Ruby Dragons again.

And FF Tactics is so fun to grind, that by the time I reached Ultima, I was so overleveled she died in a few turns. And I had Thunder God at my side to make it even easier.

I agree, its a real issue in RPGs over all. Bosses seems to kill any real strategy by always being immune to everything barring a few precise techniques.

FFXII breaks that trope with many of it's hardest enemies. You often can manipulate the battles with status effects and stopping their movements, etc. I just always felt like the battles in that game required much strategy. I remember one hidden area where all the enemies are super deadly and the only way I could get by was with constant reflect on enemies, item usage, and debuffing them with everything imaginable.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Probably not memorable at all but the very first boss I fought in FF was that metallic scorpion thing in FF7. When that epic music played and that giant fiend showed up I was already pumped

Oh how can I forget about FFXII, which have some of the hardest skill and strategy based battles in the series. People love to say "Oh FFXII is automated" Let me see someone automate this battle and I will quit gaming all together....

So when are you going to quit gaming.  I watched that video for three minutes and there was 0 player control.  Everything was gambits.  I'm not going to watch the whole thing, but because his characters cast Esunaga on status effect, I'm assuming if someone died they'd also cast life.  Probably the only time he brought up his menu was to restore MP, but I'm not going to watch the whole video to see whether that's the case.

My roommate pretty much spent 50% of that battle reading a book, from time to time checking on the TV, and then going back to reading. After 50% it did get a bit more challenging. He had to check on the game every 10 minutes or so. So yeah, the battle can be automated in most part...but it takes some experimenting to get the correct automation.

Gilgamesh in FFXII

and Gilgamesh in FFXIV

he's just hilarious XD and they were fun fights

FFVII - Malboro, because I hated it, especially on the crater wall. It would show up and bam, bad breath you to death.

FFVIII - Giant Cactuar.

FFXII - The Judges, any fight with them, always felt very personal, and not just chip away at the enemies health.
FFXII - Gilgamesh, all 3 parts, awesome fights.

And the bane of my FF existance. Demon Wall in FFVII (Temple of Ancients), dang thing was hard. Hated it but when I did beat it after the 15th attempt, it made me so happy.

Hmm, pie.

Even though FFXII is not my favorite FF game by any means, Gilgamesh in that game is a badass!
