"Excuse me MS, but does that mean my games will run worse if I actually like to have Kinect plugged in?"

And so the fragmentation problems they've created for themselves start.

Yep. MS went from "Kinect is core to the Xbox experience" to "Please unplug Kinect for the best Xbox experience"

And you have to seriously wonder what unplugging kinect will bring to the table. A few extra fps? Better textures?

Do devs now have to build their software around two seperate sets of resources? That's a lot of extra work for hardly any benefit.

While MS's move to remove kinect is probably for the best,  serious fragmentation headaches will result from this. Those extra resources will most probably just go to waste. One can argue anyway one likes, but this aspect of the situation is not ideal at all.

im guessing they would build one game set of resources that doesnt use kinect. if kinect is plugged in it simply wont work while playing the game.

It's all just marketing blub. Even if developers would start embracing the new resources it wouldn't bring 10% more performance.

How was this handled last gen with Kinect?

Like I said, a lot of extra work for devs for a few fps or slightly better textures.

It'll be the first console ever in such a situation.

If this is worth it, then console manufacturers might as well release different SKUs with beefed up graphics cards at a higher price. I'd pay $100 extra for a PS4 that does all games at 1080p60fps.

But that's never going to happen.

There is a whole set of features built into the X1 OS that wasn't available on the 360 like snapping and voice commands (and more!). This simply wasn't an issue with the 360 at all since the hardware allocated to (only) gaming was always the same on any two consoles (kinect or no kinect).

(of course firmware updates change this, but that's an entirely different point)

Use the power of the cloud instead.

Probably still a few years off.

The cloud, this possible extra 10%, DX 12. Should be interesting to see what happens

That article is inacurate.

The 10% reservation is is for the whole OS operation, that include Kinect and voice comands. This footprint is surely to go down along the generation... with or without Kinect.

Unless they remove the ability to swap on the fly between games and apps.

I can see it happening, if they have a single game running on multiple qualities
Xo+kinect version= least graphically impressive
Xo without kinect= better then previous
Xo with kinect and cloud= better then both options above
Xo without kinect but with cloud= infinite

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Didn't they already said they have boosted it by 10% because they released some power tied to the Kinect? Or is it now another 10%? Damn next time you know and Xbone will be more powerful than the PS4 lmao.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Its just amazing how much of a mess MS have made of this.
Whats funnier is how they criticise Sony and then a bit of time later they are on the same boat as sony because the one they were on sunk. e.g. blu-ray/HD-DVD, PS+/games with gold 'rental service', anmd now accepting power matters instead of claiming "play the games, not the resolution".
Its just lame how the whole industry has to drag MS. Cant wait for the 180 on the parity policy, its bound to come soon.

Wow... they keep on burning the early adopters.
