I guess your issue then is that you have absolutely no NA consumer sales data that's better than NPD. Even the first party companies will just cite NPD when they talk about consumer sales in NA so there really isn't any source for more accurate information and all you could say is how many units things shipped.

there is a difference between using it as guideline or believing it is 100% correct

If you've worked in statistics, you tend to understand that as long as the sample size is large enough and you are being unbiased in which retailer you choose (which is where NPD kind of falls off. Don't they not track Walmart for video games?), you can have the sample reflect reality. With a large sample, you can state with a high degree of confidence that the "real" value is about X, plus or minus a margin of error.

NPD has been getting information from Walmart since 2012.

Is there even that many people saying NDP is 100% accurate to justify this thread?  I haven't seen anyone saying its 100%, just that its the most accurate thing we have to work with.

So explain to me why its being used as gospel?

with the incredibly large sample size they have their numbers should be very close to real numbers

they are close enough for MS to post them as their monthly consumer sales in US for years

oh you re right...why some companies dont announce their actual sales?

Because that is not what their revenue is based on.

Who believes NPD is 100% correct? I always thought it was common knowledge that they have a margin of error just like anything else that tracks data.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

npd adjust their numbers too but it is the best we got for the biggest market out there, the main problem for now seems to be PS4 is leading in the US,we'll all get used to this in time

I smell like the dark forest of Dwemereth in the morning mist                                                   fanboy til i'm bankrupt

This a weird thread... We all agree that NPD isn't perfect (obviously) but we all agree that it's far and away the most accurate numbers we have...

So what's the point?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

maybe you should stop looking at all these sales figure since none of the report is as accurate as you wish...
