Batman: Arkham Knight looks to be a (timed) exclusive in Japan for the PS4

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Japan announced today with a press release that Batman: Arkham Knight will be exclusive for PS4 in Japan.

The game will follow Destiny‘s footsteps, and will be released a month after its North American launch, on July 2nd. It’ll cost 8,208 Yen taxes included (just north of $80). The press release does not make any mention of collector’s editions.

In addition to the release announcement, we also learn that pre-orders will be available in the archipelago of the rising sun on September 17th. The local version of the game will be fully localized, including Japanese voice acting.

Interestingly, the title was announced as part of the local Xbox One line-up during the console’s presentation press conference a couple months ago, and it’s still listed in Microsoft’s local website, but apparently Warner Bros. changed plans about it.

The game’s official Japanese site indeed displays only the PS4 version. The press release did not specify whether the exclusivity for Sony’s console is permanent or temporary.

Really wonder why Sony bothers, Arkham City sold like 20k and then another 20k for a bargain release iirc. Game would sell 2k on the Xbone.

Oh Sony, if you got money for this then invest it in some japanese games (*hint* give me Ni No Kuni 2 dammit), get a big japanese third party game exclusive to the PS4 or make one yourself.

Things that Sony could do, that will otherwise maybe not happen, to really give the PS4 a push in Japan:

Get DQ XI to PS4 (this is the big one and the one that fortunately looks pretty likely to happen)

Get a MH game on PS4, not one of the dozen of rereleases but a real one

Since that is probably too expensive go to Level 5 to get a full fledged Youkai Watch game on PS4, series seems very popular in Japan but isn't at the size of a MH yet, so it should still be "affordable"

Make a real AAA JRPG

Those are the big ones that I can think of right now, which have a chance of being possible but which would need some pushing (money) from Sony to happen, other things like Yakuza/Dynasty Warriors/Tales of/FF games for PS4 etc. will be big but will happen anyway.
