What did you think about Sony's Pre-TGS Conference?

i hope Sony buys all 3 of those devs. Quantic Dream specially. i worry for QD sometimes, because i feel their games can be a really hit and miss, and if a game is a flop i am worried they would be hit with layoffs. however sony seems to believe in them, and Beyond sold 1 million in 2013 alone. 

Quantic Dream just seems perfect for Sony though, i hope they buy them. Ready at Dawn seem like a nice fit too, but i am waiting on The Order 1886 to release to further judge their quality. 


Thing is QD already shown interest in being Sony 1st party dev, Cage's words iirc, maybe Foundamiere, anyway a higher up.

While Ru W. expressed in a couple of interviews, even lately about the history of the studio that independence is very important to them, when asked about relationship with Sony, so I don't see it happening any time soon. On the other hand in the same video he said that when the studio would hit 100 employees he would resign, and now the are over 100 and he's still in, so never say never

As for Housemarque, I would like Sony to acquire them or overall build or buy a couple of smaller studios to work on digital titles, but they seem to have an other philosophy as shown with this years line up - Hohokum, Helldivers, CounterSpy, Guns Up, etc. So I don't think Sony is interested in buying Housemarque, but it doesn't make much difference imo.



So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

as far as Ready At Dawn, well their past and relationships are heavily tied with sony studio's. Naughty Dog probably being the strongest tie as well. the have always looked at Naughty Dog for inspiration, back in the PSP days their goal was to be "The Naughty Dog of the PSP". and Sony has also helped them grow from a tiny dev into an AAA dev now, and im sure they have plans to grow even further. they can pull an insomniace, but i see its less likely.

As you can see here RAD is made up of former Naughty Dog employees. But I would say that they are more closely related to SSM, with them developing 2 God Of War games and an HD collection of the two games vs just a single J&D game. So yeah, I think that explains why they've been so close to Sony.

Btw Insomniac didn't exactly leave Sony because of money from MS, but did it because Resistance 3 flopped hard in terms of sales and soon after Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception released to massive commercial success (it has sold more in its first week than Resistance 3 did lifetime). They felt that Sony had left the game to flop, and decided to go multiplat after that and have control over their own IP.

I think Sony didn't see much value in Insomniac anymore, their last PS3 games all sold pretty poorly, that's probably why Sony wanted control over the Sunset Overdrive IP in exchange for funding (especially after the Fuse debacle).

That's an advantage of not owning a studio: you can cut ties much easier, if they stop producing results. As we can see with the R&C remake, Insomniac are still willing to make PS exclusive games, so I personally don't see Insomniac as a great example for why Sony should buy all those studios that are making exclusive games for them already.
