Forums - Nintendo - Thoughts of R4 for DS/3DS???

If people are looking to use a flash card on 3DS, know that only a select few are updated to keep up with the changing firmware. No R4s are amongst that crowd since all R4s now are name stealing knockoffs of the original team which disbanded in 2008 I think. The knockoffs get updated a couple times and then a new model releases. And they aren't supremely reliable.

DO NOT try to use a Gateway card. There can be big issues with newer firmware you'd have on a new 3DS. Could brick the thing.

I'm glad it's taking longer to work a flashcard on 3DS, with the firmware updates and all. Hopefully this is kind of effective at reducing the incredibly rampant piracy that plagued DS and PSP. The fact that we won't have emulators on phones or ones able to run well on cheap laptops etc. for a while I'm sure helps.

Forget the R4, you're selling your Vita?

How could you :(

R4 is IMO the best hacking hardware for a console ever. It works super well and it's cheap too! Only on a DS though. I honestly used it back when I did pirate (I don't do that anymore) and I used WoodR4 software.

My message to anyone who uses R4!

i dont get the point you brought up the R4. It only plays DS games and you probably have to update its fireware since you havnt used it for a while. You can absoluty use emulator to play DS.

Yeah, don't bother with R4 or anything like it for your 3DS. Not much point, constant updates would stop it from working and there's a very real chance you could just brick the thing. I find it ironic that someone called "ps3-sales!" is selling his Vita, right when the thing is starting to get enough games that I, who haven't had a Sony system since PS2, am starting to consider it. Don't get me wrong, you'll be very happy with your 3DS, I just think this year would be one of the first where it'd be worth having a Vita. I also just don't get the concept of selling a game system, even if it does collect dust. My Super Nintendo mostly just collects dust nowadays, but I wouldn't sell it for the world. Nor my N64, nor my Gamecube, though the GC still sees some use from time to time. I'll come back to them all eventually, why would I want to sell them? Ah well, enjoy your 3DS!

Finally someone saying this!! I can't understand why people sells consoles. I have all my consoles (oldest is the Master System) and wouldn't sell any of them. I can understand if you sell a TV or other things that really take a lot of space, but it doesn't takes more than one or two drawers to keep plenty of consoles.

Despite that, I'm actually searching for some nice shelf that could fit on my room and keep my consoles connected to the TV all the time.

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I'm selling my Vita tomorrow. Getting a 3ds (have not decided on XL or reg size yet)

I used to have an R4 for my old Ds. If you don't know what the R4 is; it's basically a way to play free games. Not sure how people defend it's use as it's essentially piracy. You down the rom files then transfer it on the game game cartridge.

I'm not going to get another one for my 3ds due to the fact that the only games I really want to play are the Pokemon games I haven't played yet (Black1/2, X/Y) and Zelda. I can easily afford those because I'm not a cheap bastard.

ANYWAYYYYYY

Just wanted to know your thoughts on the R4. Have you used it? Are you against it's use? Is anybody excited for a Vita 2?

Discuss.

I would at least wait until after E3 before deciding to sell your Vita.  It's only about a month away anyways.

Right? You could fit just about every console ever in a decent sized drawer on an average entertainment center. And it's not like I don't need the money, I can barely afford the games I want, but you hardly get anything for your systems anyway, and if you ever want to own the system again, you're just losing money trying to get it back. If there's even one game on a system worth playing, it makes no sense whatsoever to sell it.

Yes, you can't get a decent amount for old systems. I bought my PS2 used (actually just 2 years before the PS3) from a friend that was going to buy a PS3. I'm on Brazil, so I payed around US$ 120 for a PS2 with 2 controllers and 10 games and he bought his PS3 for US$ 700-800. It didn't helped him in nothing.
