I agree with most of the points you've made, but I don't think you're accurately assessing the trajectory of PS4 sales.  For PS4 sales to be that good, the conditions would really have to be perfect.  This includes Microsoft doing nothing to permanently change the position of the bone, and you know they have to do something.

Nah, I'm sure Nintendo will have a new handheld in a year or two. It also still has some good holiday numbers. The PS4 is selling great, but not so much so that it will make that gap by the time the 3DS2 is launched.  Though, I 100% think that it will pass the 3DS's lifetime sales (~70-80M.)

I think 3DS will be discontinued at the end of 2018 and I'm fairly confident in that. And I think both consoles will be sitting at 70-72 million by then.

As for the PS4 overtaking 3DS before it is distcontinued, I believe it can. The 3DS should still have 3-4 years before it is completely gone from the market and that should be enough time for PS4 to overtake it.
