Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo patented a handheld with interchangeable controls

Thoughts?

It looks interesting, might be that the next Nintendo handheld will be single-screen with modular controls for different play styles.

Probably won't happen, but an interesting concept nevertheless.

Part of the fusion?

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

The news was reported a day or two ago, so it's possible you saw a mention of it. Not sure if someone made a thread on it, haven't seen one anyway.

If they add changeable features great.

I see problems in the future if this becomes true though, but problems always come with Nintendo consoles.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

Now that you mention it, the bottom three buttons do look like the start/select/home buttons from the 3DS, so maybe they are gonna go dual-screen for their next handheld.

Interesting concept. It's a potential for a future handheld.

Why are people talking about the Fusion DS/Fusion Terminal as though it were real? It was a fake. The rumour was debunked. There were parts in it that had licensing problems, technology that didn't and wouldn't ever exist or doesn't technically make sense, and technology that wasn't feasible for a gaming console.

An example of an unfeasible component was the holographic storage disk drive. Games don't need 6TB disks when Blu Ray disks are much more than enough, and will continue to do so. It also doesn't make sense for Nintendo to include a drive that is currently experimental and will be expensive for years to come.

I think people are hoping that some of the aspects of Fusion turn out to be true. Fusion itself was impossible, there's no way Nintendo releases a handheld with a fingerprint sensor, 4G, magnometer, and GPS (I mean c'mon, really? GPS?).

I would be excited to 2 qHD screens and a swivel model though :P
