When you say you are relieved that Nintendo is forgoing a Live Media Presentation in lieu of doing pre-recorded Digital Distribution of their "news/reveal" directly because they think that is better and its not due to cost...

What you are really saying is that as long as Nintendo things its the better way to do it, you are on board. Just as long as it isn't because they are being cheap. That is you support their philosophical stance against "media" involvement between them and you (the consumer).

All that said, the problem with Nintendo Direct has always been that it is pre-recorded, not that it is digitally distributed. I mean so few of us ever watch E3 in any format other than streaming anyway. The different for us has been the "Nintendo Direct Show" isn't actually a live recorded presentation, and there isn't any audience either. It makes a difference.

For me, I don't care if they do it at E3 or elsewhere, but I hate the "direct" as they do it with Iwata slowly deconstructing some games mechanics or financial model and boring the crap out of me with the game.

I think not being exposed to the audience reactions leaves Nintendo in their very dangerous self-destructive bubble of ignorance. Especially as it concerns core western/european gamers tastes and preferences.

I disagree. I think that the recent Smash Direct shows how effective a prerecorded "Digital Event" can be extremely effective at cultivating hype. I think it's all about how they handle it. If the last few Nintendo video show anything, it's that Nintendo is getting much better at informationals. The Smash Direct was amazing. The Tomodachi Life Direct was very well done. Even the video that revealed Nintendo's E3 plans was well done. If Nintendo's "Digital Event" was structurally similar to these, this event can be very effective without an audience.

I still think that they should air the Digital Event at the Nokia Theatre as a Preshow to the Smash Tournament. That would steal the show. Well, if the actual show was good.

I am an Xbox hater, not a Nintendo hater. That out of the way, my opinion is that Nintendo is scared of the competition. Either that or they feel that they don't have enough to show. This looks bad for them. I am open to a more positive view like yours though. We will see.

none of the above.

It seems i am the only person who prefers Nintendo Direct over traditional E3 conferences.

SONY and MS always have ok conferences... they have awkward devs come on stage, and you get kind of a skewed view of the game through the dodgy camera shots, and the whole thing feels unrefined - a bit amateur if you will.

Compare this to Nintendo Direct - you basically get straight to the point game info & gameplay, in a well structured manner without having to sit and listen to John Doe from Ubisoft rabble on stage about their latest ideas and all that bollocks.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

I was one of the Direct haters at last years E3. I would take a normal press conference over a direct any day, as hearing the crowds reaction is a huge part of what E3 is for me personally. Even though I had hardly started playing console games at the time, looking back at the Twilight Princess reveal still makes me shiver, and it is still my favorite e3 moment, even though I never saw it live.

I don't know about that will all those rumors about companies paying of people to clap and chear. Or using their own employees to cheer.

Nothing is real anymore, therefore I only decide whether I like the game or not. Hype is like a magic show.

I definitely prefer what they're doing, because they're choosing it. Its their E3 presentation, unlike the others. I don't really like watching awkward developers get on stage and say "um" and "uh" over and over again. If the devs were like Blizzard and could own the stage, sure. But those are rare.

I mean, they're still going to be there, at the conference with a bunch of hands on. What does it matter how they get the info out?

With the quality of the recent Nintendo Directs (and the video announcing this), I think we are in for a pretty great presentation come E3...

Last year they were still fairly new to the "Nintendo Direct" idea but I think they have figured it out. As long as the games are there, the show will be splendid
