Actually... revan was part of the plot of one of the clone wars episodes but got axed. Still i think we can consider Revan part of the canon. Just unsure about the whole KOTOR game as Revan is an old Sith lord in that episode.

Darth Maul has some fantastic episodes in the show. I ultimately forgave his return because it was disappointing enough that he was "killed" in TPM, and he's such a badass on TCW. His arc in Season 5 has some of the best episodes in the entire show.
And I'm glad to hear that you like it! I'm borderline obsessive with trying to convince people to try the show, because it really is good.

Just tell people to give it a go on Netflix! thats how i started. The whole series is there. I honestly have not stopped watching it since they put it up! It is that good.

thats all good. Maybe we get too wrapped up into whats canon and what isnt. In the end it doesnt matter much. Its not like im going to throw out my entire comic collection. I will still read and enjoy. Not much different that Marvels What Ifs or DCs Elseworlds as long as they are good, im good.

Off the top of my head, there was that time when the Emperor was reborn repeatedly and had some kind of big-ass Star Destroyer that also had the Death Star's cannon on it which nobody knew about. Or Darth Nihilus, who could kill every living being on a planet using just the Force. Or the Sith Lords who could use the Force to make a sun go supernova.
Or how about that fighter-sized ship which could destroy entire solar systems in one shot while also having invlunerable armor which could shrug off literally anything anywhere ever? Actually, just lump in everything written by Kevin Anderson, before this post gets too big. Ditto for Legacy of the Force stuff. And most of the Yuuzhan Vong stuff. Or the Onderon stuff where the two planets come close enough together than land animals simply jump from one planet to the other.
Also, Crystal Star.
Off the top of my head.
Basically the problem with comics and stuff is they're quite cheap, so with all these things everything gets out of control and its hard to pick through all the crazed continuity
With Marvel, they've basically allowed the crazy comicness to continue and then made the Marvel Cinematic Universe that ties neatly together, it's a great way to do things
I never feel that comics and books should be tied into films or games series. I don't really want to have to get involved in all this "cross-media" stuff, it's just too much work to keep up
But I'm really excited for the new film and hopefully this move should give them some more creative freedom
And let's not forget, it didn't really happen. So you can just pretend whatever you want
Uhm, some of you might want to actually read that article, because it never says everything is now debunked to fanfiction. For one thing, it's only about stuff that occurs after the movies, which means KotOR is safe. Two, they're basically only saying they won't restrict themselves to stuff already written in the EU in the past.
Basically, expect possible retcons of events. They literally say "change, not discard". That's it.

oh man i almost forgot about Kevin Anderson. Oh boy, now that is a hack, but ill have to disagree. I dont think any of that stuff is worse than prequels. Now they are just as bad but for different reasons. IMHO the prequel plots arent bad, but the writing is so terrible, character portrayals are so wonky that it brings everything down. The stuff you mentioned has the opposite problem, the plots are terrible btu the writing isnt nearly as bad

We understand you're going to be unhappy with this and will ask why we cannot keep the great parts of EU or even base the new movies around it, but you'll all go and watch the three new movies anyway so who should give a fuck? We don't." Yours, Disney |
They can't base the three new movies around great parts of the post-ROTJ EU because the only good part of that EU is Thrawn.
BTW, I'm not into the Star Wars fandom but there apparently seems to be some sort of civil war over the EU's depiction of the Mandolorians? Apparently, not all the fans are pleased with them being a sort of Celtic Warrior Tribe vibe.
Can anyone with more experience explain further?
All in all, I would be happy if they axed everything except for the Thrawn Trilogy. These book deserve being put on the big screen. I would probably go to the theatre multiple times to watch it.
