They have been making a profit of several hundred million dollars for several consecutive years, so it's hard to imagine it happening.
Only problem is they get the money from outside video games, that is why the lack of presence.

They merged with sammy ages ago... And have been making butt loads of money for a while... So they arent going anywhere...
SEGA? going under?
You mean the same SEGA who are thriving in the PC market and acquired both Relic and Atlus recently.
They ain't going to anybody right now, if anything it will be SEGA who will acquire more studios.
Sonic Unleashed actually had decent sales, 4.65 million across all platforms. Other than that, Sonic has a 2-3 million range usually.
I'd say Nintendo would buy them.

I as just about to say that Ryan was late to the party and that Sammy bought them as they were going under.

You're thinking about it from the wrong perspective.
It's not about Sega and Nintendo franchises being brought together. It's about Nintendo's touch on Sega's franchises. Imagine a modern Sonic game with the quality of a Mario Galaxy game. Imagine a classic Sonic game with the quality of the NSMB series.
And there's a good bit of distinction between their franchise lineups, too. Nintendo would be getting a strong horror series (House of the Dead), two notable RPG franchise (Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia), a number of hack-and-slash franchises, some shooters (Virtua Cop, Panzer Dragoon, Ghost Squad), among others. And that's before you factor in Atlus, which brings with it Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey, Persona, and the Trauma series, to name a few. All of which would get the Nintendo touch influencing them.
-_-
SEGA ARE FINE, I dont know why everyone thinks they are doomed and going under. Sega Sammy just bought Index FFS
Sega's doing well financially. They turned it around and are one of the top third party publishers. Numerous series that are critically acclaimed and/or sell well.
Sonic
Phantasy Star
Virtua Fighter
Bayonetta
Yakuza
Total War
Valkyria Chronicles

I'd rather not have Nintendo purchase them and here's why. Nintendo didn't localizea couple Fire Emblem games even though their first releases in the west sold fairly well. Nintendo usually ignores developing games unless those games have millions of sales. I can see Nintendo purchasing Sega and releasing nothing but Sonic. Everything else, the Atlus properities, Yakuza, etc, doomed to obscurity.
If Sony purchased we'd have a good chance at receiving the Yakuza titles and Phantasy Star Online titles. Sega's doing pretty good financially though, so if you're a fan of the more obscure games in the library, you should continue weeping.
