You're thinking about it from the wrong perspective.
It's not about Sega and Nintendo franchises being brought together. It's about Nintendo's touch on Sega's franchises. Imagine a modern Sonic game with the quality of a Mario Galaxy game. Imagine a classic Sonic game with the quality of the NSMB series.
And there's a good bit of distinction between their franchise lineups, too. Nintendo would be getting a strong horror series (House of the Dead), two notable RPG franchise (Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia), a number of hack-and-slash franchises, some shooters (Virtua Cop, Panzer Dragoon, Ghost Squad), among others. And that's before you factor in Atlus, which brings with it Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey, Persona, and the Trauma series, to name a few. All of which would get the Nintendo touch influencing them.
