Forums - Sales Discussion - Playstation All Stars is no longer a flop

This game is...

not a flop 137 37.43%

a flop 131 35.79%

a MAJOR flop 96 26.23%

Total:364

Given the time it took to reach a million, still a flop. Bargin bin pricing while not remotely capturing the Smash Bros demographic is still very evident.

Given the fact that many pointed out here, the game went straight down to $40 before 2013 (meaning less than 2 months) and has been $10-$20 since i believe March of last year. Despite 1mil sales is good for the avg game, this game wasnt sold very well for a profit. We also dont kno how much this game cost to make !

So you're not gonna say anything about this million being the sum of the PS3/PSV version?

I wonder when the sequel is coming, I can't wait to play with all those iconic Playstation Stars like the Big Daddy and Dante again!

Dante is an iconic PS star. Big Daddy is debatable but it's a classic by now. So, if that was supposed to be sarcasm it failed...miserably!

Of course they are, along with Nathan and Kratos (which is debatable now). All those others in the game are anything but Iconic.

The game would flop, they said. The game was too average, they said. The game's launch was too poor, they said. The game would never sell a million units, they said. The game would be a MAJOR flop, they said. I tried to tell them to wait and that the game could still put up respectable numbers. But they didn't listen.

So I waited...

But now the time has come to speak up and face the numbers:

You must know that gamers like to think and live for the short term. They see week 1 numbers and they will react accordingly. You expect people to remain silent and wait a year before commenting? What a silly thought.

Its examples like this when one victory comes at the cost of 2+ years after a game releases. The "victory" is hollow. The buzz has passed, the gamers have moved on, and only those who were obsessed by taking the loss as personal would care today.

0.76 on PS3 and 0.28 on Vita.

I'd say it's still a pretty big flop, especially when there were people saying a single version of this game would beat Smash 64 or even Melee. Also, do we know if these sales include cross-buy?

To be fair if I based a game's "flopness" off of whether or not it met the craziest predictions I could find very few games would actually be successful.  Hell Avinash and John Lucas would make it so that even the Wii was a huge flop.

Heh, yeah can't argue with that lol XD .

Too late. They already fired the developer and let go of Seth Killian, their fighting game specialist on santa monica.

The game sold more than that with digital sales. I think the game sold well enough, im not sure what sony was expecting. Smash Bros level of sales with less recognisable mascots? Oh Sony...

They obviously don't. Otherwise the Vita version would be equal to or higher than the PS3 version (Cross-buy: Buy PS3 version and get Vita version)

You're right, don't know if that makes it better or worse though .

Is it debatable that Nathan Drake and Kratos are Playstation icons? Hardly

Regarding the others: Highly disagree...
The Helghast (Radec) are iconic villains that have been on PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP and PSV
Ratchet and Clank are BIG playstation icons. So is Sackboy. Sly is also quite popular but less so.
It's not that they chose the wrong characters per se (the characters are not all very popular or PS "icons", just like in Smash), they just needed more of them (like Crash, Spyro, Cloud etc.).

Yes it is debatable for Kratos, not for Nathan. His last game was less than stellar.

Regarding the others it is very particular for each case. Killzone was never really popular so we can say the Helghast are "iconic". You have a point with Ratchet and Clank in a way, so I give you that. Their last games sunk their populairty though. Sly is anything but popular, he is a cool character but he isn't "iconic". They are getting a movie though but damn it looks horrible.

I do agree with the last part. They needed more, they needed the truly "iconic" stars. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, etc. Specially Crash Bandicoot. His lack of presence in the game was unexcusable.

Good job game, a million is always a nice mark to hit. Even if the game probably should have sold more, at least it's not a straight-up disaster.

Wonder if we will ever see a sequel?
