Weird. I don't remember Fusion having bad music, a poor story, annoying linearity ( Yes, it was more linear than the  Metroid games before it, but it was nowhere as bad as Other M) and awkward controls! Oh well. Each to his own opinion I guess!

Both have the same linearity level. Both stories are bad, and both have similar ambient music.

lolwut. I haven't played Other M, but you can't be serious when you say Fusion's story is bad. It's pretty interesting, and the ending leaves huge possibilities for the sequel.

Metroid as a whole has a great setting/backstory, and so far, they've used it pretty well (haven't played the Prime trilogy either). I just hope they don't waste it on the next game.

From the Metroids I have played (Super, Prime Trilogy, Fusion and Other M) story is not good or outstanding.

I've played Super, Zero Mission and Fusion. All three have good plots. Simple (some extremely so), but good. Of course no one plays Metroid for the story, but it's a nice plus.

And it's ok to have a simple story. Same happened with Other M but people rage because there's useless endless cutscenes. But the story is basically the same.

Other M is a good game. The anti-Nintendo media just saw the high heels and boobs and rolled with the sexist thing. That is the hip thing to do now. Most people that rant and rave about how terrible Other M is base their opinions off the internet and have never actually played it.

That or they've only played the Prime games and blindly bought it, thinking it would be the same thing. Which is no excuse. The number of people that bought it and didn't like it are no higher than any other game made.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Metroid has the longest and most detailed Lore of any series I have ever seen, and yeah, the entire story is just plain epic.

Ppl who hate on Other M needs to take a chill pill. It's good but Metroid has the tendency of being great, that's the only problem. I can totaly understand that it can be alot of ppl least favorite Metroid but saying it flat out sucked and that it almost killed the franchise is overdoing it. The atmosphere and immersion was great, gameplay was overall good (I only hated the moments where I had to go first person and look for stuffs), character development was ok (I liked to see a more human Samus despite everyone else saying that a Samus with emotions is blasphemy, for me it made her more real). It's only flaws for me was it's story, it did'nt make much sense to me, maybe I should replay it.

Personnaly, Other M is not even the worst Metroid, that award goes to Prime Hunters.

You have Adam telling you what to do, some powers got after battle and others authorized or downloaded, linear, action adventure, upgraded beam (not diferent as prime). The only diferences are cutscenes and perspective (2D vs 3D).

I don't know how people can like Fusion but hate Other M.

From a story standpoint, it's quite easy to explain, you've left some of the most important details out.

First off, Adam (or the computer, as it were for the first part of the game) makes sense. The mission that the Federation sends her on is to follow the orders of the computer, which Samus notes in the opening cutscene (and perhaps somewhat telling is how reluctant she is to do so). That contrasts completely with deciding to follow the orders of someone for no real reason other than "gee I kinda miss Adam."

The upgrade system makes sense as well; the computer notes on several ocassions that the downgrades take time to finish. Once they're finished, they're sent to Samus immediately; presumably the more powerful ones take longer to make, which is why you get them later. Regardless, this isn't Samus choosing to not use life saving equipment just because someone says she can't; as opposed to Other M, where Adam forces Samus to run through the majority of a super heated sector without the Varia Suit because of reasons.

Fusion's definitely more linear or "action based" than previous titles, which is a sticking point for some, but it isn't for me because there's still very much an element of exploration to Fusion. While you're usually unable to get outside of a sector once you step inside, the sector is still very open and explorable and there's plenty of room for player discovery. Other M, on the other hand, is so linear that it makes Fusion look like something out of MC Escher. There's one strict path to the goal that you cannot diverge from whatsoever until the very end of the game, and the sectors themselves are incredibly straightforward with no room for any exploration.

I don't think anyone complains about stacking beam upgrades, but it'd be hard for them to like Fusion if they did.

And, finally, the big two differences from Fusion to Other M: Samus isn't an absolute wimp, and the story isn't incredibly stupid. Fusion's story is by no means an outstanding piece of literary work, but it was certainly attention grabbing, resolved all of its main plot points, and most importantly, gave a well thought out, well reasoned, and engrossing reason for Samus to go hunting again. Other M fails on all three of these levels.

Reminds me. I need to buy Fusion. Never played it as I didn't own portables.

I like Other M personally though I dislike some of its story elements. Guess I'll have to compare it to fusion in this regard. However, yes Other M was more linear than Metroid should be.

I guess it's cool to hate it instead of be happy with the few or lot of things that did it right.
