Those were all just predictions. No need to rub it in anyone's face if they were wrong.

Lol, I wouldn't really say predictions, per se.  Most of these people weren't predicting, they were telling us how it WOULD happen, not how it may happen if certain things went right.

Exactly.  When you say you know how things will turn out, you better know or you will just look like a fool.  So many people acted like the Xbox's success was a sure thing when all evidence pointed to the contrary.

Not necessarily low, but some people do take this more seriously than others. It's a formula for conflict.

I suppose. Just felt like it was flame-bait for some X1 fans :P

X1 fan? What's a X1 fan?

Fans of this, duh?

My eyes have been opened. Thank you good sir.

You are welcome, my son. Now, go forth and preach the good word, for It will satisfy all your cable needs.

Stop fighting the fight

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I...don't even know where to start.

Please keep it civil, at least until the end of my shift...please let it be another Mod's problem

Lol, you guys really work in shifts ?

Nah, but I am the only Mod that seems to be even close to GMT+10

So I am 'the night shift.'

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Well I'm sure some people got some more quotes from this thread...

I love threads like this. They act as a great window into the past. I probably spend more time reading old posts than I do new ones.

Also it's amuzing seeing how some users just keep beating the same drum regardless of how things are evolving. Some of those pretty old and pretty wrong posts look just like what the users are posting today.

There was an article that was wrote not so long ago that states that the love we have for a certain console is uncontrollable, it's deep in our brain. You can't blame people for that. I'll forvever have a bias for Sony even a slight, they shaped my childhood there's nothing I can do about it, BUT, and here comes the butt, I still love to play games from other consoles and companies, the most fun I have on a game is with my friends on Wii with Smash Bruhz (motherfucking op Pit). I also had a blast on Halo games Gears Pokemon and the list goes on. So.... yea... you can still avoid shoving it into anyone's face (don't you think so, toasboy?) but this thread was still unneccessary.

So you make a thread to call out people that couldn't predict the future... have we hit a new low? I think we have.

I don't see it.  The alternative to holding people liable to their statements is not taking them seriously at all.
The other side of the coin is, if they were right in their predictions, they would be proved as sage observers.
If they didn't want to open themselves to objective analysis, they were free to not make such bombastic claims.
The claims that are openly based on their own personal likes/dislikes are of course particularly ill-advised.

Not even people who predicted PS4 would win this gen could have known MS would emphasize Kinect and profit so much early on.

Disagree, it was widely seen that both Sony/MS would focus more on reducing up-front losses this gen, the HW for both reflects that.
If they didn't want to change that formula, they would have offered stronger hardware at the same pricepoint, but they did not.

They are still sacrificing userbase for kinect base and profit.

MS (and Sony) undoubtedly signed at least year-long contracts with suppliers, so MS cannot just drop Kinect immediately to avoid it's cost.
Since they are contracted for the cost already, they may as well include it with all the consoles, they wouldn't really save much $ by not doing so.
The contract will not last forever, possibly by this next autumn it will have expired and they can offer Kinect-less SKUs.
...I GUESS they could just warehouse the Kinects or delay deliveries from supplier, and launch Kinect-less SKU now,
and just use up thei Kinect allocation on future ala carte Kinects sold over a longer time period, but time=money,
and with the money already dedicated for Kinect, they might as well try and get the install base up for whatever that is worth.

What's your point?

Discussions of what sells and what doesn't has no bearing on what one specific person enjoys or doesn't enjoy.
You can truly love something that does not dominate the mass market, and can in fact take pride in having different tastes than the majority.
The bombastic claims of dominance based solely on personal preference is not an outcome of personal taste, but of misplaced ego.

Here is a mature post from another thread that doesn't invest themself in such illusions,
nor force them on others to maintain the illusion, while being secure in their own preferences and enjoyment:

Not being #1 does not equal failure. Not being the Wii last generation didn't equal absolute failure.
I like the Kinect. I bought the Xbox One in part because of it.
Xbox One will almost certainly never be the number one console this generation. That's fine.

Likewise, some discussion seems to project these absurd ego-based attitudes on company's behavior,
when a #2 console that is profitable is way better business decision than a #1 console that is not profitable
(or even not more profitable enough to make up for the higher money invested upfront in subsidies, etc)

Read my whole post you'd have found the answer...
"you can still avoid shoving it into anyone's face" my point is that people will most likely have a preference for a console, the only matter is how you deal with it. And some people fail to do that decently (I did, and still do sometimes). Add "like it's the truth" at the end of the sentence quoted above if it makes my point easier.
