I imagine that's the only reason anything is ever late, because it's not ready to be released. That's why people would be angry because they're treating the Wii U as the inferior platform by not keeping it up to pace. The should have allocated more resources to the console version to prevent this from happening. Why is it additional cannalibization though? Surely they need this title to push Wii U sales, not 3DS sales.

It seems Nintendo is really making it to where you need to purchase both versions. Not that it's an inherently bad thing, because in the end they care about the bottom line.

I can sort of understand the perspective that they should have thrown more resources into it, but the Assassin's Creed series demonstrates that there are hidden costs to this as well. Namely, when a game's team gets too big for the sake of pushing it out sooner, it can often feel disjointed. Personally, I prefer they wait a bit more and smoothen the experience, as Smash Bros is a series I have played for years and years on end. (Insert Miyamoto delay quote here. Make it sound wise and not just cheesy)

As for cannibalization, I think it's safe to say lots of folks won't have enough cash on hand to buy both games at the same time, meaning they'd have to pick one or the other. Granted that the title is likely to be an evergreen, but I have to think staggering the two like this will lead to better sales for the series overall.

Oh god a wild charizard appeared

There goes Mewtwo.... being replaced with greninja.

Mewtwo was too similar to Lucario anyway.

You obviously didn't spam teleport to disrupt you foes tempo.

Now that's how you do a Direct, no filler and straight to the point. I like it :)

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Wow... that was a very well structured and entertaining Nintendo direct. It was very smart of them to get the release date issue out of the way first. That way the show built momentum instead of culminating in disappointment.

Hats off to sakurai, he just schooled the rest of nintendo on how to make a good ND.

I'm ok with 3DS version first.

1) ensures WiiU version is perfect.
2) if 3ds has unique game mode so will wiiu (announced later)
3) wiiU has very different art style and will demand sales over holidays... clearly biggest game coming out in that time frame
4) allows myself and others to buy 3ds version for kids/etc well before wii u version... not cannibalizing each other's sales in software
5) allows nintendo to focus on 2nd tier games over summer releases and biggest game of year in holidays

I can't wait to buy both.

OMG had goosebumps from that Greninja reveal.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Well, that was better than I expected, overall. Didn't think they'd release the 3DS version before the Wii U one, though, I figured it'd be the other way around. Ah well.

Still, 'winter 2014'... Winter starts december 21. So, um, yeah. Looks like the Wii U one will release in the last week of December then, pretty much.

this is being specifically handcrafted to appeal to tournament players.

That's probably why it split all the form characters
