And you somehow know of the technologies used in both games.... how, exactly? I'm pleased to know you moved to Japan for a bit to help polish Mario Kart. That's awesome!

You should explain how that technology works, and why it is less taxing on the console than other technologies, and how you can tell Mario Mart 8 is using it. And you shouldn't use GTA V as a comparison, because I'm pretty sure that game isn't locked at 60 fps even during 2-player splitscreen, which it doesn't have. You have to compare like-for-like. Then people will listen.

So, this is a fair example of the technology used in Infamous SS?
@ICStats
I thought you had some credibility... I guess not.
In case you dont know... You can compare on/ingame-screen with off-screen footage because in difference in captured detail and if your comparison was valid then Digital Foundry and Lens Of Truth would have done it already... But they do not because ingame capture allows us to have view of a game directly from machine and how the console see it and not off screen footage as we see it with our own eyes in lesser quality...
| hated_individual said: @ICStats You are comparing a snapshot directly taken from a console with off screen picture... Your comparison is invalid, also there is a huge difference between these two games, GTA IV has ten times more resources invested in money, labor and nearly four times in development than Mario Kart 8... The difference is huge. Are you really expecting some miracle? Nintendo just started doing HD in comparison to arockstar who uses same engine for 7 years and continually improve it for HD twins. If they were to adapt and optimize their engine for Wii U then I bet GTA V on Wii U would do the game justice... Twice as detailed textures, less obvious pop ups and better lightning and shadowing with improved geometry here and there... You should be comparing Little Big Planet Kart with Mario Kart 8... Oh. You probably think it is somehow unfair to compare two games in same genre? |
Guys it's not a picture quality comparison, it's a technology comparison. It doesn't have to be high quality pics (all these pics are from youtube vids anyway) to tell the differences in technologies.
Don't get me wrong, I know why the difference is there. GTA V has probably way more budget than MK8. I'm not expecting a miracle. But people are saying it's so advanced - and I say b.s., it's advanced for Nintendo but not for the game industry.
I can't deny that MK8 >>>> LBP Karting :D.

Hes also comparing a Kart Racing game to a 265 million dollar open world game with a 5 year development cycle that consists of over 1,000 employees working on it (if wiki is to believe)... So the terrible picture is only one of his issues... quite hilarious if you ask me... Another person trying to downplay the game |
Kart racer verse open world actually helps MK8 in this comparison. Super linear games traditionally have better graphics then their more open counterparts.
Those other points though are pointless. Budget, dev cycle, and number of employees can be used as excuses when a game turns out bad, but I've never seen a reason to believe they're what causes a game to turn out good as well. It's almost as if you're downplaying his comparison ;)
No need. MK8 looks great.

I can tell more things in motion ofcourse. The pic I was pointing at is from the video in the OP anyone can look at, and I also linked the video of GTA V as well.
I can't see much in this pic, but I can still tell you it does better reflections than MK8, because if you watch the MK8 video you can't see reflections of buildings in the water or puddles, but even in this crappy pic of SS you can see some reflections of the scenery on the wet ground.

There is no way anyone could tell that SS does anything better than MK8 based on that screenshot compared to this one:

The reflections in the SS shot look like crap. It looks nothing like the game does in person, which is my point.
Personally, I don't really see why it matters if the pictures are off screen or on screen, because it's easy to see that it looks amazing!
You reminded me on Mario Kart 64.... The worst case of rubberband AI I ever saw...
