Forums - Nintendo - Zelda fans, would you like Zelda on Wii U to advance the combat system??

I don't think the combat system from Dark Souls and other western RPGs is an improvement for Zelda, it would make Zelda just another RPG.

I really hope Nintendo keep the combat more like a puzzle, but enemies could for sure be more agressive and react better to attacks. Having difficult options would also be welcome.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they stuck to the Ocarina-style basics and simply incorporated the various items and spells a bit better. IMO, combat should be only about 25 to 30% of Zelda gameplay, with the rest being exploration, puzzles, and things that blur the lines between the three.

I think Skyward Sword was on the right track as far as the challenge goes in combat. It required more thinking than the usual button-press and made each enemy a little more unique. They should build further upon these aspects, iron out some flaws and adapt it, control-scheme-wise, to the Gamepad. I think an analogue way to control the sword is better and more intuitive than buttons. Ideally, I hope the game will prompt the player to either use Wiimote/Nunchuck motion control like Skyward Sword, or use the Gamepad where the second stick controls the motions of the sword.

Yeah that right stick combat was my first thought when I saw Metal Gear Rising and while the end product was good it wasnt as cool as I had hoped

Hell yes! Zelda has always been amazing but sometimes I wish the combat system was a little deeper. I commend TP for trying to fix this a bit with warrior sword techniques Link learns throughout the game. I'm not sure if the Dark Souls combat would be good for Zelda though I may be wrong.

What would be pretty fucking sweet is an Arkham-esque combat system where Link can use all his weapons/items mid battle Like Batman.

YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED WHAT!? :O The Arkham games are some of the best games ever created! It feels similar Zelda just with better combat. You get more equipment and gear as the game goes on, theres some puzzle solving, and boss battles are strategic too. I'd recommend you play Arkham game... nao :P

Haven't played MGR, didn't know something similar was in there. Yeesh, I thought I was being original .

Anyway, so I admit I don't exactly know how it would work, but at a glance I think it's the only way they could retain the feeling of the combat of Skyward Sword. Which I liked, but like I said needs a bit of evolving. Enemies needed to be better at defence as their movement patterns were simple enough to quickly become too predictable, being able to counter-attack and they needed to be a bit more agressive when they decide to fight you. In short, they could use a smarter and more 'realistic' (for the lack of a better word) AI. I want enemies to use cheap tricks every once in a while, these monsters are fighting for their lives .

A sure obvious downside of using the second stick for combat though would be that you can't use the second stick for simple camera control. Personally I don't think that would be a huge loss, never really needed it in a Zelda game before.

It should be like Dark Souls. Actually every game should be like Dark Souls.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

No in MGR they made you go into a slo mo and stand still rather than giving you free use at any time which kinda sucked. You also had to hold a button down to activate it.

I think if they went with Z-Targeting system and right stick as a free movement sword it would be pretty awesome

Ah! I get it, yeah that sound a bit underwhelming then. For Zelda, I indeed meant it should be like bolded.
