I'm not so sure.
I thought they'd push the Wii to its limits with Skyward Sword, but instead it wasn't even the best looking Wii game of 2011.

wow, every big 1st party IP has 1-up'd the previous game.
Can't wait to see Zelda.

You can really see the progress as Nintendo comes to grips with HD/programmable shaders.

And now this:
The progression is really cool to see.
What I can't wait for is a "second gen" Wii U game by Nintendo, like when Tokyo EAD or Retro make their second game on the hardware now they're familiar with it.
I was expecting some pics(or video) from Zelda U. :'(
I just really want a unique art style that we've never seen before. With the 3d Zelda games I want every new game (unless it's a direct sequel like MM was to OoT) to have a totally unique art style. That's what makes the games so unique and so amazing to replay over the years. If they all tried to be realistic, we would easily forget about all but the most recent one.
the only impressive part is the diffusive reflections tbh, texture and geometrical detail is average.
Mario Kart looks nice but lets not get carried away. I'm sure Zelda U will look wonderful.
Why would anyone have ever doubted that the next Zelda will look amazing?
Nintendo Land demonstrated multiplayer at 60fps and use of global lighting. Pikmin 3 already demonstrated fast learning and a quick understanding of shader use and proper dynamic/soft shadow techniques. SM3DW showed off even further mastery of artistic design and use of tesselation to reduce "polygon edges". DKC:TF showed off "fur tech" that, while not perfect, reminds us that animals need attention, too! Mario Kart 8 is showing us an increased "size" and "scope".
Anyone who thought the next Zelda isn't going to look fantastic is just kidding themselves, lol

The lighting and v-sync'd 60fps are pretty impressive to me.

That's good for you, but having higher complexity lighting and framerates is a direct result of the lower geometrical detail.
