Several people in here seem to think that adding these games onto the mobile ecosystem would somehow help their games on the 3DS and Wii U. Why the hell would they do that? People who own these mobile devices will either be happy with what they have or demand that Nintendo put even more of their games onto their devices. It's not going to increase the fortune of the 3DS or Wii U nearly at all.
Do I think it's a good idea? No. And this is possibly one of the most redone topics on here. However, I could see Nintendo developing specific games for mobile devices. Not core series games (Pokemon Red/Blue, Pearl/Diamond, etc. or Super Mario 3D Land, NSMB/2, etc.) but spin-off kind of titles. That could work as a little side venture. Still, I doubt we'll see it happen within this year, and who even knows if it'll catch on?
Another "Nintendo should go mobile" thread? How many of those do we got now, like 9000 right?

Don't make me say it.

Yes for really old games, no for new or recent games... Mostly cause all their old games are doing right is being emulated for free, sell them for $1 and watch them steam roll Sony's mobile games
But for obvious reasons, they should never release any new or recent games on mobile

No to Nintendo releasing games on current phones. Yes to Sony and Nintendo releasing dedicated gaming phones. If either 3DS or Vita had the ability to make calls over a carrier I would not have a android phone. Whoever does this first is going to make some major bank, and I am still extremely disjointed in both of them for letting Apple and Samsung dominate a market that they should have. Even more so for the fact that they are still not competing, when they should have started this 10 years ago.

Maybe they shouldn't release first party titles to mobile, but I don't see any harm in Nintendo or any publisher dedicating developers to make games for IOS and Android. There is a huge audience out there on those devices and Nintendo is already an established brand with all audiences - casual and non-casual. Hundreds of millions (not an exaggeration) of mobile gamers are already paying money for cheap Zelda, Mario bros and Mario Kart rip-offs. Nintendo would be wise to step in and make that money instead. Not to mention how popularNintendo emulators are on mobile devices.
Considering they are having issues bringing their older games to the 3ds and Wii-U eshop I don't understand the logic of people who think that they're going to be showered in money by bringing some of their games to systems they don't make, would just chastise the sales of the 3ds which is where their money is coming from atm and to do what? If they offered their games on the android or apple market at their Eshop prices they'd be horribly overpriced and overlooked.
At least only 4 people clicked yes to this one of which is most likely the OP. I guess those 4 people would happily pay 99cent for some old Game boy titles... can see how Nintendo would be rolling in money if they did that alright... would prolly hurt rolling on that change.

I'm prepared for the meltdowns if this ever does happen! :L
I certainly think there would be a place for them to use mobile as an idea factory. Much of what Nintendo devs apparently love to do is experiment with new gameplay mechanics, then build up entire major franchise games around them (Link Between Worlds being top-down due to the wall-merge mechanic, for instance). A few small mobile development teams, attached to the EAD groups, could let Nintendo work in a low-risk, high-exposure environment, creating small new IPs focused around any unique gameplay mechanic (gimmick, if we want to call it that) and being able to gauge consumer reactions so that they can know if it's really a good idea to base the entire next Mario game around "X".
Low-end virtual console games might have to go out to mobile just as a market inevitability. Such games, like the original SMB, are going to be pirated on those platforms en masse inevitably, so you might as well have them there legitimately to at least make some money off of that consumer desire. The further up-market the game, the less need there is to put it outside your eShop environment, though.
I agree that their next handheld should be Android-integrated. Solves Nintendo's infrastructure problems in one go and they get to keep hardware control, plus letting them tap into all low-end Western 3rd party support (which is pretty much all mobile now).
