Forums - Gaming - Will PS4 x X1 graphical difference dissapear?

If would depend of third parties, maybe. But Sony's first-party studios must show the gap between both.

disapear completly, never.
but can be unoticible for 90% of people.

Yes it does.  Look it up.

Can you tell the name of one game that uses OpenGL on PS3? Or PS4? You will be surprised... developers didn't use OpenGL on PS3 or PS4 because they need something more low to get the best results.

They use PSSL and libGCN on PS3 and PS4.

In all seriousness, I do not think the gap will close much at all, even if it did. It's like saying the graphical difference between PC and console will disappear. You can't really make something that's already struggling hitting it's own performance be equal to something that's superior. This applies to multiplats and exclusives

Not telling I know better than him, but the problem with the guy is it's impossible to know if he just want to be nice to MS, or even have knowledge about it. Remember Kojima saying the difference is minimal, then how PS4 was the best and shown a more than significant difference.

Anyway, it's really not about disappearing, it's about closing the gap. Starting from a given gap, one of the factor will be how developers invest in both consoles. With a finite budget for engine and games, you decide if you put your money to close the gap between versions, or if you use it to make the PS4 shine even more. What is the lead platform, do you even have a solid budget to make optimizations on different platforms ? It will heavily depend on current sales. Does similar versions sell more on xbox (no inferior version - I know on PS3 it did matter for me), less on ps4 (because there are more expectations or other more optimized versions) ? Also if the consumer doesn't care too much about resolution, it will save quite a lot of resource on xbox...

Only if X1 starts outselling the PS4 by a very wide margin. If the PS4 keeps selling more then the gap will only widen.

I own infamous and on my 60" plasma it is a great looking game, but it isn't amazing. There are some great lighting effects, but it can't keep a steady framerate. Take a ride on the monorail, infamous1 & 2 had a steadier framerate than second son. I think it would have been better if Sucker Punch just locked the framerate at 30 and left it alone.

Honestly the only game to "wow" me so far has been Ryse. We all know the framerate is slow, but at least its pretty steady 99% of the time and certain scenes on that game are incredible. Killzone is also a game that looks amazing in parts and keeps a steady framerate.

Only time will truly tell if we have a noticeable persistent gap in games in the future. Launch games never are a good indication of a system's true potential.

This. Kinda.

I was playing Second Son last night and suddenly, the game didn't look so good to me.  In fact, it started looking kinda bad.  Maybe due to the open world nature.  Maybe due to uninspired environments and character designs (aside from a few main people).  All I know is that the view from the Space Needle should have wowed me.  Instead, it made me think that 8th gen isn't going to be that impressive.  I guess I just have to be patient.

So far nothing, and I mean NOTHING, on PS4/Xbox one has impressed me graphically or gameplay wise.  The controllers feel good.  The hardware seems solid and their interfaces seem cool.  The games?  Not at all.  A game like Beyond on PS3 looks more "next gen" to me than the PS4/Xbox One titles I've played so far.

Depends of how good DirectX12 is

This is the same fanboy crap where the wii u is stated to be competitive with ps4 and xbone. Denial of reality is no.1 on the list of fanboy attributes. Both PS4 and xbone have identical size APU's. Microsoft ripped out a 3rd of the gpu power and half the rendering pipelines amongst other things so they could put in a small pool of memory to compensate for using slow external memory.

The PS4 is significantly more powerful than xbone in graphics power but not in cpu performance or available memory so the reality is both are capable of the same games but the PS4 will easily outperform the xbone visually. Not only that but the 32MB eSRAM is a bottleneck forcing the xbone to keep to lower resolutions to maintain a viable frame rate. There is no such restriction with ps4.

Firstly, it really doesn't matter either way, and if people want the more powerful console just buy the PlayStation 4 and stop whining. Secondly, if I keep driving my Vauxhall will it eventually become as fast as a BMW? No it won't but I will perfect my driving style and that will help, what you can't forget though is that the BMW driver will also be perfecting their style.

Analogies aside, the PlayStation 4 is just more powerful and whilst the Xbox may/will eventually be able to achieve what the PlayStation 4 is currently achieving, the PS4 will always do it better.
