Needless to say, picking one game over the others is not an easy task. They all have their strong aspects while only a few have shortcomings. Meaning that even a game ranked last of the bunch from a certain point of view still doesn't necessarily lack in that area; the others just do it even better. (A very good example of this would be the music.)

Still, I'll have to give my vote to Halo: CE for bringing all of the series' key components, an excellent story and immersion unlike anything else at the time.


I pretty much share this same opinion.

Halo 1 for me is the pinnacle of the series.
Most enjoyment after that one I got from 4.

Halo 4 has, in my view, the best design, a really good story and emotional commitment. Halo 1 is close, simply because it started everything :).

to be fair it is really impossible to rank them... I'll put it like that Halo is the best all around continuing FPS saga ever invented and each games so far did a rather good job at leveraging more or less on its own heritage with some excelling way more than other in certain field.... but even the bad side in each ones are usually not enough to take them down under most other FPS...

now what would be fun is if we could do pivot tables of the voters in this post with age, favorite console, favorite genre and see what the data tells us...
