Forums - Nintendo - 3DS is cannibalizing Wii U

Galaxy as great as it is, is essentially just a beefed up Mario 64. Small gravity is just a step in the forward direction, as a spiritual successor should be.

And no offense, but this whole areguement is so wrong with you. You have an opinion, but you present it as fact.

WiiU is selling badly, not because of the 3DS, but because of it's stupid Gamepad and lack of Wii Sports/Killer new IP. 3DS is affecting WiiU sales just as much as DS did to Wii. Remember argue all you like, but the two biggest "traditional" IP's on the Wii, were just as big on the DS (New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart).

Heck if anything 3DS is more different to WiiU then DS was to Wii. Last I checked Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing were two of the biggest games on 3DS, and Pikmin/Wii Party/NintendoLand are also three of the biggest WiiU games. See the lack of cross platform?

Galaxy was not like 64. Less open worlds. Focus on 3D gravity. And most importantly, it was undoable on DS.

Pikmin/Wii Party/Nintendoland are not the Wii U's key games, 3D World and NSMBU are, and both had a 3DS equivalent.

Except when the game still doesn't move many consoles despite being from a proven franchise like 3D Mario, NSMB, Wii ___, and Donkey Kong Country, then you know it's the system that is at fault, since there's no other reason for one popular franchise after another sell badly compared to it's predecessor. SM3DW should still end up around 5 million lifetime, becoming one of the Wii U's best sellers.

If you really don't think the next big leap for 3D Mario wouldn't have moved more hardware and software than a sequel to a 3DS game, then frankly you're out of touch with the market, like Nintendo.

I guess Mario 64 must not of have been a "big leap" then since the N64 still sold worse than the SNES, and I'll bet Mario 64 also sold worse than Super Mario World, but I'll have to check that one. Not that any of that matters since as Call of Duty and countless other games have shown, people don't give a hoot about "big leaps"!

Mario 64 was a big leap, which is why it shifted serious hardware. 3D World was a 3DS sequel, so it didn't.

Galaxy is the spiritual successor to Mario 64, and I'm pretty sure they could make it work on the DS. They made Metroid Prime work.

Nintendoland is not one of WiiU's key games? It's the 2nd best selling Wii game. Plus like you said NSMB is also one of Wii's Key games, released on DS first. Mario Kart as well, and Galaxy is in the same boat as 3D World (or at least for arguements sake Wind Waker), sorry.

How is Galaxy any different? It's the sequel to Super Mario 64.

DS did not have a "Mario Galaxy Portable Edition". It had a decade-old port of a game with a different design. Therefore Galaxy was not deflated like 3D World was.

Nintendoland is only as high as it is because of bundling.

3D Land and World have the same core design.

Galaxy and 64 do not.

lol what serious hardware? I'm hoping you're not serious with that statement! And again, with this logic, MK8 and SSB4 wont move hardware either. And don't give me that "but people's expectations" as we both know that's a load of bull! If you wanna make a convincing argument, you're gonna need more cold hard facts!

3ds actually has competitive third party support..probably the best 3rd party support for a handheld.. To bad nintendo hasn't been able to make this claim since the SNES (probably their best system in terms of games)

Serious hardware as in Mario 64 was one of the foremost killer apps for the console, the game people got an N64 to play.

You really think people expect as much ambition out of Smash and Kart as they do from a next gen 3D Mario? Did Smash and Kart's E3 reveals generate anywhere near the negative backlash 3D World's did? No, they didn't.

Because people expect Kart and Smash to iterate, while they expect more from 3D Mario.
