This is a problem right here.

The mere fact we think we need to balance mod bias is why we possibly even have mod bias.  What we need are mods that know how to set their own bias aside to perform their duty.  If you can't do that, you shouldn't be a mod in the first place.

Agreed a moderator is here to improve the community and communicate why something has happend, not cater for the different sides

You need both, because quite frankly there is a minute amount of people here that can put their bias to one side, and there has never not been at least one mod on the team that couldn't do that.

There are more people here capable of putting their bias aside than you think.   It's just that they are usually less vocal than those who are not.

As for the mod that can't do it...why is he still a mod?    Nor does having one mod with bias necessitate having a second wrong to balance the first.  Because then you need a 3rd mod that represents the other camp.  And this cycle continues until you hav a bunch of mods with bias.  This leads to improper mod actions, infighting, disrespect of the mod team, etc...

for the average user on here who wouldn't mind helping out with moderation I don't think they would really understand what the mod chat is to begin with. Would be like me asking someone who has never played Warcraft what Class they would bring to heroic Raiding asking a question of what you'd bring to moderation chat. I find that a bit of an unanswerable question when thinking about applying to this.
