Nintendo is not just trying to do fitness, though i would hazard that this gen is the last in any conventional sense.

As Sony migrates to being a more service-oriented company over the next five years, they'll push their Gaikai infrastructure into PlayStation Now as an independent platform, where the hardware becomes less important than the service.

Microsoft is either going to drop the whole business (less likely), or migrate more in a set-top box direction (so also more service oriented, but more as a general entertainment hub, while Sony's remains more gaming-focused).

Nintendo puts more focus on the handheld, having the console be a mere extension of the handheld platform, one that will likely synergize with their Quality of Life stuff as well.

This brings each of them into conflict with different sectors. Sony fights Valve (at least in gaming), Microsoft fights Apple and Google, who are their true enemies anyway, Nintendo fights the good fight against Mobile (so *also* Apple and Google, along with Samsung and a half-dozen others, but in a less direct way)

Needs a No added to the poll. If the demand is there we will always see a new generation of consoles and as we see the demand is very much there. Nintendo will release another console. The X1 and PS4 are doing great business and have easily earned there place in the modern living room accompanying all the tablets and phones not being replaced by them.

titanfall uk day one numbers over 100k for the xbox one and about 6k for pc. The power of the pc that rapidly changes to stay ahead of consoles doesn't matter. People just like to game more on the controlled environment that is console gaming.

Well, I have a few rhetorical question for you:

1 - is Infamous running in 1080p at 60fps or more all the time?... Could it benefit from running in 4K? at a better frame rate?

2 - Infamous 2 is the best looking console game so far, and there are still visible concessions (not all lights cast shadows, no water puddles interaction).

This is for the PS4, if you ask these question about the xb1 and wii-u it's even more obvious that there is ample room for improvement!

I think the PS4 in particular is a pretty nice piece of hardware, and it's more and more obvious with every game I play on it, you cannot find a better gaming machine for 400$, however if Sony made a 500 or 600$ machine it would be significantly improved and games would benefit from it (Assuming they take the same loss/gain on every machine they sell).

Bro this thread ain't about graphics, but they are becoming pointless anyways. Once Google Fiber becomes prominent then streaming will most likely become the norm, and that can handle great graphics without the need for a console or PC. You just need a TV. They can even continously improve the graphics without needing an upgrade or a new console every few years.

Infamous: Second Son is the PS4 one. But yes, I noticed that your character had no impact on the wet surface. Your character also doesn't reflect in some mirrored surfaces which I found strangely disappointing.

I'm not sure if this is the last traditional console cycle. I do see boxes continuing to be made even for stuff like PSNow, I'd imagine Sony would put out a set top box for it too.

However, I do think we're starting to come to the end of the boxed product for gaming. Particularly for smaller titles. I think Digital Distribution is going to kick in a lot more, and it's going to be the battle of the eco system, rather than battle of the hardware.

The only thing that proves is that the majority of PC gamers in the UK are smart enough not to pay top dollar for half a game..
