Netflix

And how much of there content will be 4k

I see most articles are saying "Very little at launch"

Many producers and mastering filming movies and TV shows for a while in high resolution, so the source material is present, but as always with this kind of business is it ultimately boils down to licensing and money.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Yeah, fuck technological improvements. Mankind survived travelling by horse, living in caves and all. So let's get rid of our cars & houses, television, the internet and back to OXO-style 35x16 pixel, 1-bit graphics.

But serious: I'm really getting annoyed by these stupid "Resolution doesn't matter" threads. It feels more and more like men not getting tired of trying to convince others that "Size doesn't matter".

While these people do have a good point (on most TV screens, the difference between 1080p and 720p is neglectable), the fact that they tend to try to ridicule and downplay the matter does not make these people seem like neutral and objective. And such behaviour generally raises the question of whom they're actually trying to convince: Others? ...or themselves? And... why?!? To me personally, it feels more and like people simply trying to justify/rationalize their own video game console purchase.

I'mnot saying resolution doesn'tmatter i'm saying 720and 1080 are both crap

EDIT:  i'm saying that making fun of 720 from the perspective of 1080 doesn't make sense

Ill believe it when i see the content, to me right now this just stinks of marketing to get people to sign up to netflix when they buy there new Smart TV's.

Uptake of 4k is gonna be a snails pace compared to HDTV, especially if the only place to get content is 1 web streaming service.

Its not that its horrible, its more to do with paying more for less.
Lets face it if it was anything else in life you wouldn't defend it.
How many of you would buy a smaller TV for more money, because it was branded Panasonic instead of Samsung.

Now if your desperate to play titanfall or Forza then of course X1 is what you buy. But the constant downplaying of graphics is silly, if you could get an X1 with a PS4 spec and $100 cheaper, you wouldn't ask who cares about resolution.

I know you were a 360 guy so I don't think you're biased.  I jump between PS4 and Xbox One daily and I don't notice the gap in power, yet.  And I got my Xbox One after my PS4 and I don't think I paid more for less at all.  I paid more for a weaker console bundled with over $100 worth of other stuff (Including Titanfall!).

Fun fact: Most 1st exclusive megadrive games were in 320x240 versus 256x240 for SNES games.

But 320x240 is still only 25% only more than 256x240

When 1080p is 125% more than 720p.

Fun fact (And mostly a testiment to the PC...)
John Carmack made the origional Quake game on a 1080P monitor in 1995.
Although it was a 28" CRT monitor.

The Quake engine would be modified and used in games such as Call of Duty, Source and thus by extension... Titanfall, Half Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, you name it.
That was a seriously high-end monitor back then, but consider that almost 20 years ago (Before some of you were even born) PC gamers could play games in 1080P....
This is Nintendo 64/Playstation 1/Super Nintendo era folks.

We should have made a *much* larger jump. :P
1440P is readily available, cheap and plentifull, not really that much more expensive than 1080P Twisted Nematic panels if you go for the Korean branded panels, heck some of those monitors can be overclocked, that's what last generation consoles should have been outputting.

720P and 1080P is what should be expected out of a 4.5" and 6" phone respectively, not a 27"-60" or larger panel, demand more of these companies and you get more.

I have a HDTV and I am perfectly happy with 720p games.

But dont lie to me, you would prefer to make the best use of your HDTV . If you dont care, it's really silly to buy a Full HD tv, you spent money for something you dont care...

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

All I'm going to say is that there were two world wars before full HD was invented, and zero after.

It was a matter of convenience; the TV I got was $100 off by special offer, the brand I wanted, and the right size. Whether it was 720p or 1080p didn't even factor into my decision.

I regularly play games like Donkey Kong Country Tropial Freeze and Mario 3D World in native 720p, and I'm pleased with how they look.
