I can say that in the States people *love* Nintendo. But they also think of them a bit like a 'kids' console. The 3DS, Pokimon, and plenty of the 'family' styled Wii games. Many of my Nintendo lovin' friends didn't even that a new console, the WiiU came out. And it's tough to say what 'must have' games are on it.
"Really? What's good on it?" should never be a question that you hesitate to answer. I'd probably say PikMin. But that's not a game for everybody.
Microsoft through Xbox has a broader appeal, at least in these two English speaking area. Being part of that culture it's seems like the best of it all.
It think it's about perception, product and games.
