After the way he handled some of the backlash of the X1's reveal I wouldn't put him in charge of convincing people they need to breath air to live, everyone would protest and choke to death instead. This is an odd statement to make tho, A few people here saying that to say they wanna be honest and upfront now means they were lying before, I don't really think so. Remember when gaming journalists last year at E3 asked Major N if the X1 new game sharing system and family system was going to be something like Steam and offer deals like steam does and Herb seemed to be very keen to not appear to be trying to follow in steams footsteps. I always think if at this point in time he just turned around and said "yup" rather than fight the similaritys... gamers love how steam works, being similiar to it isn't a bad thing. |
I don't think Mattrick is that incompetent, I mean just look at that smile:

That's award winning right there.
TBH: I sincerely think Mattrick was a scapegoat, just because he was just following the companies directives.
I don't usually apologize for Microsoft, but when I do its because I geniunly feel that if they try to be honest they can be. They aren't EA.
I don't think everyone is on the right page at Xbox and they need to get more closely knit like Sony Now and Nintendo has been.

He just grew a bit in my respect for him(which was about at zero). Now he just has to act on it and send the memo to the rest of the MS people.
It's not that they are lying, just withholding a lot of information and spinning the rest.

Don Mattrick is gone. Kinect was his baby so I'd expect a unbundling in 2015 possibly. It is VERY possible to change your philosophy in a month. It is called adapting to market conditions. But its been almost a year......that is like several months. Plenty extra time then one measely month.
Side question: MS was never trusted in gaming. They stopped Xbox after 4 years and RROD.....and this is what makes you distrust them? Long story short......MS is simply learning as they go.
I thought they already were. They had the gall to come out and step all over us on the X1 unveil. It was pretty honest, i'd say.

TBH I was eager to get next Xbox before ps4 this gen. I am a retro gamer in my mind. I like to collect games and replay old games. I get all games in disk. I spent none in DLC. And often get GOTY editions to play DLC or other add ons. For me disk based games are important and owning them is a big fact. I had two Xbox 360 in past. One RRODed just three months before Halo 3. That was probably non-HDMI model. I took another but it also didnt lasted long. Xbox 360 never had (and never will) get official release in my country. So there was no way to claim warranty. So I sold all of my Xbox 360 games. In 2009 I took ps3 slim and never looked back. You can understand how I felt during last E3.
Good news is don mattrick is done and with him all bad vibes. I will get Xbox One. But it will be a little late.
we live in a world of where every word ever spoken is overly analyzed and the slightest inconsistencies can explode onto social media and completely counter hundreds of millions worth of marketing dollars.
in that world, gamers are some of the most tech savy, analytical, and hard-to-please customers you could ever hope to have.
honest communication is an absolute must.
If I understood correctly he said something like:
"What we learnt at MS is that lying was bad"
