Forums - Gaming - Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Feels Fanboys have a “Unhealthy Dislike” for Competing Platforms

The platforms themselves are unhealthy to the games industry. Instead of companies fighting a format war they should be working together to build one format. Then they can compete for market by building better services and software, which at the end of the day is all that really matters. We need more players in the game to drive competition, but we need one unified platform/format for games creators to build the best product possible. If MS/Sony/NIN would stop fighting the unhealthy war, we could create one platform, and have hardware competition between many more manufactures, and dev cost reduction would create many more studios.



Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I think any gamer who visits gaming sites, even ocassionally, is well aware of the fanboy wars. Some people have compared the current war to the war between Sega and Nintendo in the 90's, but this war is far worse due to the internet. 

It seems to me that many - maybe even most - of the people on forums have multiple consoles, after all gaming is their favourite hobby.

 

The reason people want to have fan wars is probably just because of human nature.

Microsoft continues to spew PR nosense whenever they can get a word in. The whole "Wii60" and "Live is better than PSN" days that began thanks to Microsoft themselves. Without their poisonous PR there would be much less fanboyism.
