Don't get me wrong, I apreciate FF 7, 8 & 10, but they aren't as epic, and they are a little too convoluted. I wish they made a 3D version of FFVI.

As for FFII, just strikes me right. 4 main characters die in the game, and come back together in the epilogue. Was kinda sad when they died in the game, and epic to see them literally save the world (needed to destroy the boss from both dimensions, living and dead).

That said....I really need to beat more FF games. I played them all, some quite a bit, but I've only ever beat 3 of the main games.

FF9 was rubbish.

FF9.

FF5 is just a guilty pleasure.

Looking at the poll, FFVI and VII are doing well, which is just as it should be

1. VII
2. VI
3. X
4. VIII
5. IX (or IV, can't decide)

Really difficult to decide the order after that. Hell, I have a tough time deciding between IV, VIII and IX. That order is likely to change by next week.

Final Fantasy IX which is  the most holy  FF game ever made.  If you don't agree then you are not a true gamer. Plain and simple.

But... I'm an atheist

FFVII over FFVI because of sheer scope. I still can't believe people think FFIX is in any way close to FFVI or FFVII, but I have to respect that at least.

FF9 is the new Chuck Norris. Nerds have got together and picked out the lamest and most backward game in the FF series and are pretending it is somehow awesome.

There is a reason for that.xD

Final Fantasy IX is the only great Final Fantasy game. The rest range from very good to trash.

VII, then IX, then XII.

Granted, to be taken with some salt since I've only played a total of seven games in the series, only four to completion. I never actually finished XII, but I've probably sunk 100+ hours into it, and the only other games in the series I've finished (VIII and XIII) were too below par for me to even consider.

I openly state that all FF games after 10 are crap, but the one I'm least comfortable saying that about is 12, I've honestly never played it. Only one of the main series I've not played. Why? Because I'm not an airplane. The analogue controls where so very terrible I honestly couldn't play it. Both axis are reversed making a game with real time combat out and out impossible for me. The worst part of all, if there was an option in the game to switch this off, there's every chance I'd have loved this game which I've heard is actually pretty damn good... but no, it remains the only untouchable FF game for me.

The camera controls were admittedly irritating to get used to, but the game doesn't really have real time combat, at least not in the traditional sense of the word.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Lighting returns. The added "physics" really puts the game in a league of its own. ;)

All seriousness though...

Final Fantasy VII for single player and A Realm Reborn for overall winner. FFIX gets honorable mention, but the whole learning abilities through weapons BS annoyed me almost as much as having to absorb and ration spells in FFVIII.
